I don't see either one on the ISGC schedule?
However, the player schedule list is excellent.

There will be some who won't go just because these two greats won't be able to make it, but it's the old "cut your nose off..." thing. I'd love to hear these guys too, but there is no shortage of talent on the line up. I'm looking forward to it!

What occasionally bothers me is when comments are disparaging to Scotty or to the show because certain players aren't scheduled to perform. In a great many instances, it's the player's choice to not attend, due to other commitments or scheduling.

Scotty has personally told me that Buddy, Lloyd, and others I don't need to mention are always invited to attend and perform. When they don't, it's almost always their personal decision.

On the other hand, this year's lineup includes the return of Randy Beavers, Ron Elliott and Buddy Charleton, and of course the heavyweights Hal Rugg, John Hughey, Doug J., Terry Bethel, Brumley, Myrick, the Coxes, etc. The monster Dicky Overbey making I believe his first appearance. Hell, it's going to be a fantastic show, regardless. There's no shortage of talent whatsoever.

And if all that isn't enough, the "no-Buddy-no-me" guys can buy Buddy Emmons and Lloyd Green CD's and videos at the show, go up to their rooms, and listen to them ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT!!

Herb, you are right! I am sorry that Lloyd and Buddy cannot make it, but there's tons of good music to be expected! I am looking forward to Dickie Overbey, Winnie Winston, Ron Elliot, Buddy Charleton and, and...

As long as Scotty puts up the show and I am able to travel, I will take the trip around the world and be there!

And: I will meet all you forumites!

Kind Regards, Walter

I am attending for the second time ever this year. At 24, ALL of the scheduled players are a privilege to hear and meet! I met Mr. Emmons and Mr. Green last year, but let's hear it for Hal Rugg (who is recovering as best he can to grace us with his portion of the show this year), the legendary Don Helms (who also shares fishing tips), and Tom Brumley (who can tell you stories all night about his father, Albert E. Brumley, the renowned Gospel song writer). Add Mr. Scotty's hospitality to the mix, along with everything and everybody else, and we're guaranteed to have ourselves a ball, folks! Please refrain from using those discouraging remarks in front of me; I will bite back with heart-felt loyalty for Mr. DeWitt Scott! What a privilege it is for a young fella like myself to attend something so pure, so wholesome, and so legendary! How about you grouches just staying at home this year and read about what a good time the rest of us had here on the forum when we get back home?! I TIP MY HAT TO YOU, MR. SCOTTY! Perhaps you, Mr. Scotty, could set up a boxing ring this year for all of those who want to gripe with you to... never mind! See y'all there!

Yours truly,

Thank you very much for that compliment, Mr. Cohen! I look forward to shaking your hand at the Convention. It's gentlemen like you who are my mentors, and I want to learn all I can from your generation so that I might carry the torch, someday. TAKE CARE, SIR!

Tay, I wish I could be there to shake your hand, but alas, I have to miss the convention this year (sniff!) I expect to be back next year, and will look forward to meeting you at some point or another (perhaps the Chattanooga show?)

And as for you, JB Arnold, you... you... you IMPOSTER, you! I'll deal with you later!

Herb Steiner always makes sense. He should write a book on music, life, and all things steel. I would buy it.

In all of my years in the music business, work and other commitments have always kept me from attending the St Louis show.

Now that I'm retired from playing, and there are no critical current family health problems, I am going to St Louis (Lord permitting) this year "for the first time".

Even though some of the players who I have admired through the years may not be on the program for various reasons, I am confident that all of the players who are on the show will be "world class" players.

My thanks to Scotty for all of his work and dedication in continuing to plan and execute this tremendous annual steel guitar showcase!

...."who will carry on when he is gone?".

In the past year I have purchased REAL country music Cd's by Johnny Bush, Justin Trevino, and Darryl McCall......Dickey Overbey is all over all of them. I listen to them over and over and over. He alone is worth the price of admission. I will miss Buddy and Lloyd, to be sure. I wish they could be there but I will be there to stand and applaud Hal Rugg, Buddy Charleton, John Hughey, Tom Brumley, and on and on and on AND of course, Dickey Overbey. I can't wait. Pee Wee, I will miss you too. Thanks to you (and the late Bob White) for being so courteous to me at past conventions.

If I could, I would go just to see the "other" Buddy (Charleton). BE is great, but BC is more of an influence for myself. I really hope there will be another chance next year.

This keeps getting better and better. Justin Trevino! I'm certainly looking forward to that. I guess we can count on hearing a cut or two from his new CD with Dicky Overby (sp?) on steel. That one has been added to my short list of "clinics on backup pedal steel". Hope the neighbors have enjoyed it these past few weeks.
