I went to see Randy at the Applachian Fair last night in East TN. When I got to the fair grounds, I couldn't believe the parking situation. I have been going to this fair for many, many years. NEVER, have I seen the back parking lot, which is quite a few acre's in size, full or even close to being full. I had to park at the extreme outer edge, up against the fence! They have had just about any major country act you can name at this fair over the years. Lee Ann Rymes pulled a great croud a few years back, but nothing like Randy. The bleachers, folding chair area, standing room, etc. was just unbelievably full. You could hardly get near the place. Randy did about 90 minutes and nobody was leaving. Steve Hinson was playing steel, and although they didn't require him to play too much, when it did come his turn to play, he did an excellent job. Traditional country music is alive and well in East TN. Like everywhere else, we don't get it on the radio, but have a live concert and WATCH OUT! |

Geo.....glad to hear Randy packed 'em in. We took a little 'float trip' back in June with John Hagee, Jesse DuPlantis, Dennis Swanberg, Ivan Parker, the Talley Trio, Gold City, and Randy...his was an all accoustic show and he of course focused on his 'gospel' material. This was down to Puerto Rico, St John, and St Thomas..BUT..the events on board overshadowed anything on land. Great time. |

Steve, it was just too big a mess of people after the show was over. I had planned on hollerin at you, but decided I would just try to beat the crowds to the parking lot instead. I understand that your better half plays bass at the Cowboy Corral with Smiley Roberts. I will be droppin in for a set or two on Sept. 10th. Enjoyed your pickin at the fair and the best to you in the future. |
