Yep! What Cliff said. More "nanners" ought to do it.

1 teaspoon mustard orally and the muscle will usually release in 3-4 minutes...I've been doing the mustard especially in the middle of the night and it has worked every time...Good Luck...jr

I've heard from some fairly reliable sources that there are definite risks to eating too many nanners in the hope of acquiring enough potassium. As I recall, 26 inches of banana is required in order to achieve the minimal dosage of potassium.

Things like broken arms, broken legs and other such
debilitating injuries are common side affects.

Jack, Roual, my Dr said the same thing; had muscle spasms in the legs, and the Mag-Ox seems to be doing the job. Magnesium and Potassium are related in their activity in the body somehow; Dr same the Mag-Ox would have the body make better use of the potassium already there. Cool ...

I've had terrible problems with leg cramps and finally asked my doctor about it. At his suggestion, I drink about four ounces of Tonic Water containing Quinine at bed time. I also take a Magnesium supplement and I try to drink as much water as possible.

I have seen quite an improvement. Good luck!

If possible; walk more ... really long walks, every day.
That's the "simple" cure my chiropractor and my regular doctor recommend for such problems. I know it works, but I do find it hard to get going and stay on track as planned Smile

Magnesium and Potassium metabolism are linked. Mag-Oxide works for me. Have your Doc check do some simple lab work including: basic electrolytes + creatinine, BUN, calcium, and magnesium levels.

Also vary the heel height of your shoes. A low heel requires a more rigorous workout for the ankle dorsiflexor muscle (lifting off of pedals A+B) and the Peroneii muscles groups (pressing pedal B alone). This increase the potential for muscle cramping along the front foreleg.

Same goes for the bananas. Smile

Hope you get better. See the doc, don't rely on our home remedies. Let the experts have a shot at it first.

My doc told me to walk five miles every day to lose weight. The first week, I didn't lose any weight, but I ended up thirty-five miles from home. Laughing

I was told the same thing as Tony R. but have not been able to find the Tonic Water containing Quinine . What brand and Where are you finding it?

However I did find a over the counter leg cramp relief at Wal Mart that contains Quinine made by Hyland's . I take 2 - 4 a day and eat 2 - 3 banana's as well.

Mine started cramping after pinching some nerves about a year ago and will get me up in the middle of the night on ocassion still. It helps to take the Quinine but has not totally eliminated it.

A few years ago, I had such muscle cramps at night,
it's hard to describe how much they hurt. Just when you can't do anything but lay there and groan and it can't possibly get any worse, it gets worse.

The final help for me was a bar or 2 of soap in the bed. Scratch your head all you want, but it works.

Also, Walmart had something called, Leg Cramps. Those pills helped as well.

Here is the answer
The pills I was taking years ago, are now only available with a prescription (quinine).
After that, one day I ask my friend a druggist about this, and he said forget the pills. get a bottle of Tonic Water (Canada Dry), and keep it on hand.
There is more quinine and in a liquid form and it works so fast you will not believe it.

If you see me at the convention late in the evening, I'll have a glass in my hand with a twist of lime just for taste, after being on my feet all day. Take it to the bank It works. I don't like it without the lime, but when in pain who cares

I keep the little bottles in my suit case
Danny
I too, had them at night, try sleeping in light sweat pants.

I don't know about others, but in my case the cramps in left leg is caused by keeping the foot up off the pedals while the heel is resting on the floor. If I play in boots with a higher heel, no problems. Coarse daddy time has a lot to do with it too---never bothered a fews years back.
I've thought about some kind of pad or something to lay in front of the pedals to raise the heel height some.

You can get "diet" Tonic Water (which contains quinine) at Walmart for about $.50 a liter.

I get them when I am laying down and go into a full body type of stretch. If I point my toes up towards my head, bingo, my calf or calves lock up tight as a drum. Excruciating pain. I've had a whole series of blood tests over the course of a year, and it shows that my body doesn't retain potassium as it should. I have been so low that the doctor throws me in the hospital overnight and they feed me potassium by I.V. overnight (Hurts like heck). I take potassium pills and it seems to help.

It's a warning that we need to practice more.
When I don't practice during the week before I play, I get cramps during the nite of the gig and the morning after.
If I practice during the week before I play, I don't get cramps during the nite of the gig nor the morning after.

I too had severe leg and foot cramps and what I can best describe as Gout symptoms on a regular basis.

I had switched to a new Doctor and he said my old Doctor had me on a Blood Pressure Medication that was depleting my potassium.

He put me on Norvasc and had me take a Potassium pill for a few weeks and that cured all my problems. Haven't had any problems in over a year now.

I get them in my lower legs when the weather cools down. I suffer from DVT's and I am blood thinners for the rest of my life. Clots' ain't nothing to mess with. I had my first back in'88 after having knee surgery. I went around for a week and the leg swoll up really bad, I went the ER. The doctor did an ultra sound of my leg and found it. While I was in the hospital the clot broke lose and traveled to my left lung. Can you say pulmonary embolism thrombosis? Not many people survive those.

Someone has stated you need potassium and to eat bananas. I do not like a banana by itself so I go for a "Banana Split" from Braums.
