As a Derby owner, it was a very nice read of the post, and others, initiated by Ray McCarthy. re: Derby history.

Anyboby familair with Derby Serial numbers and approx. Manuf. dates? My Derby Ser.# is 0070.

Here's an excerpt from an earlier thread about the one I used to have. I'd say it is at least 1 or 2 years older than the purchase date. Perhaps someone who bought a brand new one near your # can get you closer.

I don't know of any official dating system for Derbys, but Charlie probably kept records of when they were first sold.
What a shame our buddy is not around to ask. Miss him.
