Hi -
I'm looking for some Bell cranks and swivels for a JCH guitar. The bell crank hole is 1/4" - obviously the size of the swivel too....

Here's a pic of the bell crank:

Pic of the swivel:

Here's how it works:

Does anybody have any of these parts?
I think the swivels arent unique - maybe Emmons made a similar version (or the same?)?
I think the 4 hole Emmons bell crank would fit the guitar too - but does anyne have any of the original JCH parts?

Does anyone have any info on JCH parts? I've contacted Seymour's - they dont have any.

Any info appreciated.

Roger

Roger -

Buck Reid worked alongside Jimmy Crawford for several years and plays a JCH that they built. I'm unaware of any stock of parts that Buck may have but, in my conversations with him, I recall him having mentioned a person who purchased the remaining inventory. It might be well if you contacted Buck personally.

After really looking at your pics I'm struck by the fact that the bellcrank and barrel are dead ringers for the ones on my GFI. The cross-shafts on my GFI are 5/16" square. This might serve as a retrofit if you cannot find the original parts.

Derby bell cranks will also work and the swivels look the same.

Bobbe Seymour bought the remaining JCH stock from Jimmy C's widow. You could try him.

Hi Ken -

I contacted Seymour's and they dont have any parts. Despite hearing this from a few different people it apears he didnt buy the spare inventory.

Thanks for the idea though.

I have used the GFI swivils and they work althought they are a tiny bit longer from the hole to the flange. On some of them the nylon washer trick takes up the slack. The looseness is from side to side and I don't think it affects the tuning much if at all. Don't know about the bellcranks, but if the cross shaft is the same size, the GFI's might work. The pull rod length is not real critical, if they are long enough, because the way the swivils are, you can adjust the rod at both ends to get the nylon nuts in the center of their range. By the way, the GFI swivils appear to be brass.

Roger - sorry to have given you incorrect information. I must have misunderstood what Bobbe said to me when I last saw him.

My best information is that a man in New York bought the remaining parts. They say he is a little difficult to contact and get to know, but at least one of the guys that told me about him got some parts. I got a couple of bellcranks and swivils from a guy in Canada that had a couple of extras. Got in touch with him just the way you are trying, on this forum.
