Topic: Peavey BW model differences? |

I have been waiting 2 weeks on a 12" BW to put into a combo cabinet I made for an Evans head and I am leaving for tour on saturday....
I am scrambling for something to make due right now and I am finding Black widows in older peavey amps locally that are not the exact model i was recommended by Mike Brown (1254mr model, and then a KB300 with a 15"in it). ARe the differences in the models that different?
Desperate for a black widow.... |

I think the 1201 is a musical instrument speaker as well as the 1203 in the 12" BW family. I believe they were available in 4 or 8 ohm models. Either would work ok. In the 15" models, the 1501 and 1502 are the only ones I could recommend for steel guitar. At one time, there was a 1507 that was designed for jazz guitar I think, and would probably be OK..
Other speakers designed for keyboard, sound reinforcement etc. will probably leave you disappointed IMO.

Yes, there are certain BW's that were "voiced" for certain applications, ie; 1501-4 ohm SB for steel guitar. By voicing, we mean that listening tests have determined that a particular speaker is suitable for a particular application, ie; 1501-4 ohm shallow basket.
Back in the '90's, we changed all of our BW speakers to KEVLAR cone material, but the 1501-4ohm sb remained in a paper cone. Prior to the change, all BW's were paper.
The 1501-4 ohm sb(#00027020) is still the perferred choice for steel guitar. If you wish to order a complete 1501-4 ohm sb complete speaker, the item number is #00560140. |

| Call me crazy, but I currently have a 1505DT-8 Black Widow in my 1975 Fender Vibrasonic, and it sounds absolutely great for steel. I know it's a PA speaker, but I borrowed from my bass player and I couldn't be happier with the sound. Anyone else ever tried one? |

| How does the 1501 work for guitar applications? I am Thinking of grabbing one to put into my Super reverb turned Vibroverb but i need to do double duty with guitar with that amp.... |

Mike Poholski, no there is not an 8 ohm version of the 1501 BW.
Jonathan, the 1501j works very good for six string electric guitar applications. |
