You're right, she's a beauty. Too bad Sho-Buds have such a difficult-to-play mechanism. I have never found one I could play.

Yes, shes a nice one.  I own 3 Super Pros of the same era. Luv-Luv-Luv-em!!!  One Blonde, one Black and one Walnut. I have been watching this one for some time now. Sad,  but it is over priced by a few $$$$. A realistic value on these is around $2K + or - a few $$$.

I agree it's a bit too over priced and i would be surprised if it sells at all.
But from the ads i've seen lately it seems like pure luck to run into a used steel for less than $10 000

I'd love to see that one too. Like you, my Super-Pro plays like a dream and it's soooooo good looking, particularly with the rope binding. I smile at it every day.

I bought my (first-ever) used PSG a few months ago. It's a Sho-Bud Pro II CUSTOM. After going over all pedals and KL's and ridding them all of way over-tuning, this Sho-Bud plays and sounds like a charm! I played Sho-Buds from ’57 until ’80 and only ever owned one model (for a very short time) that wasn't acceptable to me! ‘Click’ Here!

I have had a few Sho-Buds over the years. 2 Professionals, rack and Barrel.
A S14 string, blue, said to be one of Julian Tharpes", But I figured 10 and 12 strings were enough for me.
A S10 5/5 rack and barrel.
A Super-Pro D10, I made some Videos with, and Drew Howard may help me get them on You Tube..
Now have a round front Blonde Pro 1 with the two holer bellcranks and barrel tuners, dual coil sho-bud pickup, with 6 pedals and 5 knees, 6th tuning.
Got some of Coops parts. It was a 3/2 original.
I liked them all and they all played and sounded good to me....al.

Any idea what one just like this one might be worth? with the following exceptions? has 8x6 > 5 of the 6 vert. The case is exact same color & condition,the only other diff. is, it has alum. necks with color fret boards. S.N. is 17528. The Birdseye is not as highly figured as this one,but is nice and in great shape. has orig. pup`s. looks like it brother!!

To some extent with these Supers it's down to the mechanics, particularly the changer. The great thing is that, unlike the Emmons maple jobs which were laminated birdseye, the Super Buds are solid maple. All the parts are replaceable and it's possible to bring an old Bud back to life quite easily. Neil suggests around $2K, but I think a Super-Pro , metal or wooden necks in decent condition is around $2.5K.
They are compact and compare very favourably with a modern guitar weight wise and it is after all a SHO-BUD !!!!!
They can have the end plate splits put on them by a reasonably competent engineer (if you don't mind altering an original guitar) and with the aluminium bracket options and incredible advice and skill from people like Ricky Davis, available on this forum, there is all the help in the world to make them really playable. They are lighter than the Pro series and quite a few modern steels and lighter and more compact than an Emmons P/P.
All in all I think you can say I rather like mine.........Yep[/u][/i][/b] I do.

Jim i have been playing Sho~Buds for over 30 years now and have never found one like you have described ! I have played many other brands and have found that none of them play as well as the Sho~Buds . I have had new guitars built for me of other brands and they almost played me . Needless to say they didn't live with me very long ! I have another new guitar that has a long history behind them but my Sho~Buds play better than it does . I look at a steel that is user friendly no matter what brand they are . If they don't feel good to you then it's very hard to play at your best . This is only my opinion as they say !  |
