Got my advanced copy of George Strait's CD TWANG today. The first single will be "Twang". Of course Paul Franklin and Brent Mason all over the CD. In the first single 'Twang" Strait even sings about Pedal Steel and bending guitar strings!

George's son Bubba has co-written "Living For The Night" with his dad and Dean Dillon and "He's Got That Something Special". Bubba also Co-Wrote "Out Of Sight Out Of Mind with his dad (Paul's steel kick off is Pure Country!) and has the song credit on "Arkansas Dave"

Also interesting is the photo shoot for the CD was taken at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas... a place George played before the world knew of the King of Country Music and Artist of the Decade.

George recorded his parts in Key West, FL at Shrimpboat Sound Studio because the air there is good for doing vocals and George sounds as good if not better than ever.

Our Forum members that love country music will sure to enjoy this CD.

As the earliest CDs begin to deteriorate, it's becoming pretty obvious the only truly permanent way to store sound is the vinyl record.

Nice...I may order it...funny, since we have added 2" analog tape back into our studios, our phone is ringing--three tracking sessions to tape this month and two are going to vinyl...Smile

Last year Vinyl was the fastest growing music media(124% increase), in terms of album sales. Vinyl sales grew as much as CD sells dropped.

well, I'll throw some water out there, I've been listening to the CD on Rhapsody, here's my review:

It's ok, a few tunes worthy and some good Country Music but in my mind ( not much left ) once again GS falls short with nothing that really rocks the house long term. A tune or two will make some airplay such as Twang but I don't think this CD is in any shape a chart buster. The Spanish song should have been left in the studio on the hard drive.

For sure some nice playing by the A Team and maybe that's the best part of the CD, the session players !

Maybe it's time for the A team to make there own CD's and advertise them as ...

"Featuring so and so on vocals"

sorry...

For the purists, I suppose. What about 8-track though? Very Happy

I'll have to pick this one up. It sounds like my kind of music instead of the typical tease where we get two country songs and the rest are commercial production.

I got mine today in the mail from AMAZON. An advance order for ONLY $7.99.
Money well spent, as we are big George fans.
Twang is a potential hit, I like "Easy As You Go" too.
George lets it loose in Delbert McClintons' Same Kind Of Crazy... a real nice 2/4 feel for the 2 step dancers and I never heard George put so much soul into his vocals before. Even with a Hammond solo.. I still like it.
I would love to ask Paul about "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" .. it's in 3/4 time...except for Paul's intro. It seems like there is a extra beat or so in there.

"The Breath You Take" is a tear jerker... be prepared..

The tunes written with Dean Dillon are really good stuff and The closing track El Rey is a cool tune in spanish..

My copy came in the mail yesterday. Been listening to it like crazy and I think it's a great album. Yes, it's "typical" George Strait--but nothing wrong with that at all.
I love it.

I have to agree with Tony. I listened to the samples and found it to be pretty much boring. It's nice clean picking, but has the new country flavor to it, and the songs are just..... I already said it, boring. My opinion anyway. I'm sure he'll sell a bunch and I hope he does.

He has a nice voice, phrasing, pitch, etc... are right there, but when you listen to him sing a ballad, and then listen to someone like Paycheck, Jones, Dickens, Vern, Charlie Louvin, Bobby Bare, etc... Well, it just ain't the same. These guys bring cold chills to me, GS never did that. I'd refer to his music as more "easy listening country".

No disrespect meant. He's a great entertainer, and has the $$$$ and awards to prove it. I'm just talking about my own personal taste in music, which I know is in the minority to the rest of the world.

My wife just picked up the CD this afternoon and I'm only on song 5, but I really like it. Really like 'Living for the Night' co-written with George's son Bubba. Sounds like it is a song about their late daughter/sister, very good.

We saw him back in June for the first time and his live show was excellent, wasn't just phoning it in.

Yeh, It may sound like his other stuff, but why ruin a good thing, I really like the two Jim Lauderdale songs, good to see him writing for George again.

I'm with Tony and Rick, too.

I listened to most of the samples. They were mostly slow and boring. I think the one about "Alabama Dave" was a bit upbeat.

But the overall "tone", as mentioned before, sounds like all the other ruffage going on today. It has no warmth. The playing is excellent, but it just didn't hug me.

It's like the whole sound, sonically, is too loud and sterile.

George has certainly made much, much better music, recordings, and songs in the past. Maybe he's primed-out. Can't fault him there.
