| I know that MSA and Sierra have done this for years. Are there any other builders that offer interchangeable quick-change pickups? |

Jackson guitars apparently have interchangeable pickups. I had a nice chat with David Jackson about this a couple of days ago. I have serious grounding and phase issues in the wiring of my old apartment, as well as a big transformer on a pole right outside the window of my practice room. The stock single coil on my new Blackjack sounds great but the hum at home is distracting.
According to Mr. Jackson, the pickups on his guitars are mounted to a base plate in such a way that all you need to do to replace the pickup is undo the mounting screws, take the pickup out, and screw the new one in. No soldering or additional wiring work is needed.
To overcome the electrical problems in my house he offered to put a BL-705 on one of his base plates that I can use at home and in other rooms with hum problems. Also, the pickups from the other Jackson models will drop in just as easily and are available for reasonable prices.
As has been stated before, the people at Jackson are really, really classy and wonderful to deal with. |

My mica MSA has been retrofitted with the Sierra system.
I don't use a lot of different pickups, I've tried out a lot of different ones, and settled on the ones I prefer. (True tone in the mica MSA, Tone Aligner in the Millennium) (The green steel shown in my avatar has a George L 5 position pickup.) I will be trying out an alimitone in the Millennium soon.
I think all steels should have this feature.

| And wouldn't it be nice if they all agreed on the same interchangeable mounting system. That way we could swap pups among different brands of steel guitars. |

| Dave and I usually think alike, and in this instance what Dave suggested was my immediate thought. What if there were a standard socket, into which you could just unplug one pickup and plug in another. You don't even need different dimensions for 8, 10 and 12 string pickups. Just have the plug connection within the 8-string size. |
