The " SWIZZLE STIK " in Huntington Beach,California had this band of Musicans playing in 1974.The Grand Junction Steve Silver,Scott Hendrickson,Jerry Graves,Doug Alms & Mike Mikulka.Than you could go to The Vendetti's club to hear Gerald Ray's Country Pride with John Noreen,Butch Tomes & Jim Lacy. Thanks to Chuck Wilder from KIEV Radio Station and Florence Davis for the fun in AZUSA!Just a few more memories of who remembers. Wow, Leo, I hadn't even remembered Dougs name let alone that he was in the band. Once GJ went out on the road with Barbie, Steve Schmidt was playing drums and Duncan Cameron (later with the Amazing Rhythm Aces, Glenn Frey, Sawyer Brown) had taken Jerrys place. Duncan was only 18 when we met and he used to sneak into the Stik and sit in with us.
Thanks for the memories.....though I have lost touch with most of them, Mike and I still correspond. He has a brand new ultra studio in Houston, Lucky Run, and has done very well. Duncan left Sawyer Brown a few years ago and is now a pilot with Southwest airlines. He is one of the most talented people I ever played with and is not only a monster on guitar but on steel guitar as well.

Leo, the old Swizzle Stik had to be one of the nicest clubs in SoCal. I played there the first time with Johnny McKnight in 1969-70, then with Bobby Ray & Buddy Banks in 1971-72. Jimmy Lester & his wife Cathie did a stint there after we left. I went to Texas for a year and a half and came back in the last part of '76 and went back in there with Rod Culpepper, Monte Paul, JoAnne Rinard, & Art Sanchez. When Art went on the road with Billy Armstrong we had a procession of steel players including Al Meyers, Jimmy Hill, and even a young gun named Steve (now Stephen) Silver. When Steve left to go on the road I went on steel and we hired Roy Dee on lead guitar. The "Stik" was a great place to work and a venue that you would never be ashamed to have someone come and see you there. Here's a shot of me in front of the marque around the middle of '77 wearing one of those notorious "leisure suits" that the owner (Paul Perrier) wanted us to wear!........JH in Va.
