While burning the "after-midnight oil" this past weekend, I was lucky enough to catch the band "Last Train Home", featuring fellow Forumite Dave Van Allen on TV. The half-hour MHz show on PBS's local channels featured the band playing 6 of their own songs, and a couple brief interviews of bandleader Eric Brace by Richard Harrington, of the Washington Post. Eric described their music as a "wide palate of rock n' roll". My own description would be a little alt-rock, a little swing, a little jazz, and a little Americana. Dave was right out front most all the time, and his Zum was singing like '60s Tom Brumley's ZB. Good job, Dave!
The MHz show, similar to Austin City Limits, features local groups in an intimate live setting. (I hope I wasn't the only one who caught the show.) |

Good for Dave!!! I've been trying to get out to see him for over a year now, but every time they're in town I either have gigs or am out of town. Dang it!! I'll get out eventually!!! So far I've only heard Dave play once, on a borrowed guitar, through a borrowed amp, with borrowed picks, and he sounded freakin' great, I just gotta hear him on his own rig. |

Aw, shucks... and Thanks Donny!
We recorded that last spring (2003) and it gets played on PBS affiliates all over the country sporadically, generally as you say for folks burning the "after-midnight oil" . We get an e-mail into the LTH website from time to time letting us know some soul in another state has seen it and become a fan therebye.
I have yet to have seen the whole show since we did it- although a few weeks back I was in bed flicking the channels (after midnight) and arrived in the middle of it. Rolled over and elbowed the wife and said "wake up Honey, I'm on the Tee-Vee!"
Heads Up Forbes! the next LTH iota weekend is Friday night August 20, Saturday night August 21 and the Sunday August 22 Matinee all ages show. Start leaving yourself post-its around now, and maybe I'll see you at the show |

I was also up late one night and saw that same show. Dave not only played very well,
but also looked great.

I'm bummed that I didnt know that it was on in California too. The name of the show is MHz? I don't think I've seen it on PBS.
I'll look for it, and maybe they'll re-run it. |

Dave, see, your problem is the picture of you is with the ZB, THAT'S the guitar that adds the pounds. The Zum I'm sure makes you look svelte. My first question before I buy a guitar is, "does this guitar make me look fat?" |
