Calvin;
Internet Exploder can freeze up for a variety of reasons. The usual causes are add-ons, like toolbars, BHOs, search hijackers and bad or exploited controls and plug-ins.

I recommend that you download, install, update, then scan with MalwareBytes AntiMalware. Close IE while scanning so that it can remove any malware and spyware threats it finds in that browser.

If no malware is found your computer may be corrupted. Did you perhaps have a bad shutdown after a recent Windows Update session? Or, has the PC suffered a sudden shutdown, due to a brownout or voltage spike? Sudden shutdowns can cause all kinds of trouble with the hard disk and operating system/Registry.

Try SR to an earlier date, before the problem were so bad. If the SR is no better undo it and go back further in the SR calendar. If nothing improves the situation you will probably benefit from a Repair Re-installation, or a run of SFC /Scannow, with the XP CD in the top tray.

Buy a UPS from a computer or office supply store. Get the largest capacity you can afford.
