Hi,

I'm selling or trading my 1979 Franklin D10 that
I bought from Jay Dee Manness in 1980 (#019) when he went back to his Sho-Bud. It has 8 floors, 6 knees, and 2 verticals. It has custom pickups wound for me by Shields (the S in MSA) before he died which
sound like a cross between an old Emmons and
a Sho-Bud on this guitar. I also have the
original pickups that are more George L like.
It comes with an SKB style road case with wheels
built by Sierra. It's
in excellent condition except for a small scratch on
the formica behind the C6 neck and i've disconnected
the tone control pot but it's still there if you want
to use it.

The 8 floor pedals are the usual split between
E9 (ABC) and C6 (the rest)

I can't seem to create a spaced/tabbed table
here so email me for the knee and vertical
lever setup.

After some research is looks to me like $5000.00
plus shipping would be a fair price so that's
what I'm asking.

See it at:

After some research is looks to me like $5000.00
plus shipping, insurance, and paypal fee (if
applicable) be a fair price so that's what I'm asking. I will contribute 2.5% of the sale proceeds
to the Forum

TERMS OF SALE:

Payment
-------
1.Paypal (buyer pays paypal fee as I want to be able
to contribute 2.5% to the forum. I will
ship as soon as I receive the paypal payment.

2. Check or MO I will ship after the Check or MO
clears my bank (I got a counterfeit MO once).

Shipping
--------
I will ship by any method you are willing to pay
for as long as insurance and tracking are
available.

Approval Period
---------------
You may have a 72 hour approval period based
on your (pre-agreed) conditions for refusal.
You will be responsible for shipping it back to
me the same method I used to ship to you including insurance for the sales price and any shipping
or handling fees (paypal fee etc.)

Title to Goods
--------------
Title transfers at my location meaning that if damage occurs the buyer will be responsible for contacting the freight company to claim renumeration. When shipping, I will insure
the shipment for the purchase price, plus
shipping fees, plus paypal fees.

PS: I'm also looking for an excellent condition Fender Stringmaster Double or Triple 8.

More info on request.

Thanks for reading.

Well,

I said I paid $1800.00 for it in 1980.
Not sure what it's worth now. Maybe more than that.
Any advice from anyone?

Thanks,

Jon

Thanks Dick and Jerry,

Yeah I saw Mike D's posting for that single 10
Franklin and just couldn't believe that someone
could get that. I bought mine from J.D. Manness
in 1980 after he bought it from Paul and
decided to go back to his Sho-Bud. I love the guitar
but don't play much Pedal-Steel anymore and
just bought a nice higher end Dobro and Mandolin
which I do play all the time now.

Jerry, is your offer real or are you just showing
me the base value?

I've got a call into Paul Sr. to see what he thinks.

Thanks,

Jon

I've uploaded some pics of the guitar and the
case. I should have wiped the guitar neck down
and taken the duct tape off the front legs
(that's how the roadies knew which legs to
put up front (-Smile so it can be made to look cleaner
but what the heck.

I'm headed out to the studio tonight to
take some more pics and write down the non-standard
pedal actions.

I've got one serious potential buyer at this
price so far.

Thanks,

Jon

Jon, I honestly think that is a fair price for both you and the buyer. Good luck. I'm glad you didn't jump too quickly and give it away.

The price is excellent for a D-10 Franklin in good shape -both cosmetically and mechanically. Two years ago Paul (Sr) told me my 81 D-10, that he told me was in "like new" condition, was worth at least double what I paid for it and that would have made it about $4500. Prices have went up since then for a Franklin and in some cases skyrocketed.

Me and my wife go see him occasionally to get strings and talk. They're so nice, and I like to hear his stories. Last time I saw him, about a month ago, he isn't taking orders and is catching up on the ones he has taken. He didn't say when he was going to start taking orders again. But that could change. Just call Mr. Franklin, he's a really nice guy.

I heard this guitar around 1990 at a club in Corvallis, OR. As I recall, it sounded great and it looks to be in good shape still. Jon, I think you got a great deal when you bought it from JD as the going rate for a new Franklin 8x8 in 1979 was over $3000 shipped, w/o any preferred customer discount. At least that's what I paid for #018. If memory serves me, Jon, you live somewhere up the McKenzie. I was really surprised to learn there were two Franklins in the Willamette Valley in those days. Hold out for the big bucks, you own a collector's instrument.

Did we talk about steels that night? If it
was Corvallis it could only have been
Dave Storr's free jazz project at a small
coffee house near the college? Does that sound
right? Maybe at a Grange Hall playing country.
That's cool you have #18. Where are you
working these days?
