Here's an excellent version by one of our colleagues from Japan.
SAND

I wonder what his guitar and equipment is ?

Baz,thank you very much for your help to upload my version. I am a low tech analog person who had a difficulty to link a sound clip here.As you listen to it, you will notice that this intended to emulate Ah See's version as much as 90%.
This was played on B11th neck of '59 Stringmaster D8
through Fender BF Deluxe Reverb recorded at my friend's living room. A flanger effect was added very lightly at mastering.

I love the intro, and how it just sneaks into the melody, really enjoyed it! thanks for sharing

I've been listening and playing JB's version for years and I think I like this one even better. There's something about the lower key and that fat major 6th chord with the open string that really does it for me.

Gorgeous!

Thank you guys for nice words. They are really encouraging. The intro is Lion Kobayashi version which as Josh points out helps to glide into the melody smoothly. FYI,the B11th here is a Hawaiian B11th:(L to H) LowB F# B D# F# A C# E. while JB's is: LowB A C# D# F# A C# E.

I always love seeing/hearing all the variations of the B11 tuning...actually never knew there was a "Hawaiian" one! Cool thanks for the info.

Josh,
This tuning Low B F# B D# F# A C# E
is the same tuning used by the Hawaiian Steel
Guitar virtuoso, Jules Ah See. If he used it
it, it definitely is a Hawaiian tuning. Winking Winking

Aloha, Smile

Ahhhh so.....I mean, Ah See!!! Cool Laughing

The funny thing is, you can make it through the entire song using only the highest 5 strings (D# F# A C# E ), which is common to both JB's and Ah See's tuning...anyone else notice that??

Yes, I noticed that when I recorded my version of Sand... top 5 strings only. So the tune can be played on any 6-string lap steel.
