I picked up some old tracks by Traffic from iTunes. They were one of my favorite bands when I was a teenager. I had almost forgotten about them.
Got any other Traffic fans here? _________________ -ššš- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

Hi Bob,
Count me in as a Traffic fan. I saw them a bunch of times at the Fillmore East in the early l970s, a wonderful band. I'm glad that Steve Winwood is still making great music. He is one of my favorites.

I liked Traffic too. I also love the one and only album by Blind Faith which featured Steve Winwood from "Traffic" and Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker from "Cream". |

Huge fan. I did several of their tunes in club bands in the late 60s early 70s. Got to meet and hang some with Chris Wood when he was playing tenor and flute w/Dr.John "The Night Tripper" and I was in their opening act on a short 3 city East coast tour in the fall of 69. The late Jeanette Jacobs from "Cake" was in Mac's band also and was Chris Wood's lady at the time. The band was super funky and was doing all the "Gris-Gris Gumbo Ya-Ya" stuff like "Mama Roux". Them were the days... |

Steve Winwood actually started out with the Spencer Davis Group when he was only 15 years old before leaving to form Traffic What a cool time that must of been!

I really, really love 'Medicated Goo'. I tried, unsuccessfully, to get into whole albums, but never made it. I like quite a few tunes from the first 3 records though. |

Hey Bob thats exactly what I've been doing. I think seeing the Clapton-Winwood concert from MSG got me thinking about Traffic again. (What an excellent concert that was.) Always liked one of their later songs alot,Low Spark of High Heeled Boys. |

I wasn't aware that Steve Winwood worked with the Rascals. I thought that was Felix Cavalerie's (sp?) band.

Will, I have that When the Eagle Flies LP with Low Spark. It's a great album. I've literally worn it out so that it's almost unintelligible now. Love Winwood's work in all of his band configurations. |

I'm another Traffic fan. I have all the albums on vinyl. I played "Medicated Goo" in a couple of bands in the past. Great song.
Whenever country musicians I play with start playing "Can't You See" (Marshall Tucker), I always tell 'em I thought they were doing "Mr. Fantasy". They never know what I'm talking about. Sad.
If Winwood ever worked with the Rascals, it's news to me. Are we confusing two soulful-sounding singers?

I think you're confusing of The Spencer Davis Group's Gimme Some Lovin' with The Young Rascals Good Lovin'. Stevie Winwood was in The Spencer Davis Group, not the Rascals.
Winwood went on to become a well-established solo artist in his own right. He's an excellent musician, composer and performer, maybe even a "genius" (in my opinion, of course). _________________ -ššš- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

He appeared on a Curtis Mayfield tribute album in '94 with a buncha other artists. There was even banjo on that album. Genius.

Yeah, count me in, going back to "Dear Mr. Fantasy" and Winwood back to Spencer Davis. I saw them fairly early on, just great. Steve is ridiculously multi-talented, and I've always been a Dave Mason fan - his solo album "Alone Together" is just great. I still have my beat-to-shreds picture-vinyl copy.
I like the post-Blind-Faith, post-Mason stuff, but some of those tunes just got played to death on FM-radio - "Freedom Rider" and "Low Spark" were just constantly on (and at over 11 minutes, when Low Spark comes on, it's on for a while). But after a break, I now enjoy listening to them again. |

I think I wore out every Traffic album I bought as a kid. Surprisngly my nieces and nephews now listen to their music. Super musicianship and concepts by the great Stevie Winwood. |

My oldest brother was into Traffic but I don't remember listening to any of his Traffic albums. All I can remember is that Steve Winwood played a Strat. _________________ Sho-Bud Pro III + Marshall JMP 2204 half stack = good grind! |

I heard "Can't Find My Way Home" on the radio last week and got so nostalgic I ordered Blind Faith's CD. Steve Winwood is a very competent instrumentalist (guitar and keyboards) and has a really unique voice. |
