Hi folks
My old Peavey 1504-4 speaker is original on my Session 400 (1979). It finally needed reconing and I got a replacement basket kit.
So far so good.
When I removed the magnet from the old basket, I found that the foam disk which sits behind the wire mesh vent covering the center of the magnet ring had disintegrated.
My questions are:
With what to replace that foam disk, and how ? Will I damage the speaker to use it for a while without that ? Do I need to glue or otherwise stick the replacement material in place to prevent it from slipping into the voice coil area?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

You can discard it. Make sure before you put the basket to the magnet to clean the coil gap. Most of the time that foam gunk gets in there. Use an old credit card or masking tape folded and go around the gap in the magnet. They don't even use that old foam dust plug anymore.
