Greetings all! I'm a new member, and excited to dig into all the info SGF has to offer. I recently purchased a '58 Valco-made Oahu Iolana double-6, and both pickups are really low-output. There's nothing wrong with the winding and both pickups are polarized properly. It came to my attention that perhaps my "string-through" pickups (essentially Supro, right?) might both need to be remagnetized, and was told that Rick Aiello was the guy to do it. I'd been on Rick's terrific website before, but was dissapointed to find out that he's no longer taking customers anymore. Who else out there is remagnetizing pickups? --CW

Just a thought - if both of them seem low and they're both using a single volume pot, it could just be a dirty pot - get a short wire with alligator clips on each end and bypass the volume and tone controls and see if you get any more juice.

I know this may be obvious, but did you try flipping one of the magnets to assure that their polarity is correct (as opposed to checking the pickup itself)? I, for one, screwed this up on my Supro mucking around with the pole pieces. Thanks to Jason Lollar, who knows a lot about these, for the tip (and not making me feel like a dumba$$).

If you need parts for these, he's your man if Rick can't assist.

+ 1 on this. It really does make a big difference.
