I ran across this and thought you'd also be interested in reading it. This is first time I have seen so much information about the net amalgamated in one place. This site is loaded with information.

Thought some of you might like to look it over.

Here's what the above site says about Al Gore:
Quote:
"What about Al Gore? Did Al Gore invent the Internet?"

No, former United States Vice President Al Gore did not invent the Internet. What's more, he never said he did!

Al Gore's political contributions to the development of the Internet as we know it were quite significant. For more about this issue, including what Gore really said and how some of the Internet's actual inventors feel about his remarks, see my article Did Al Gore invent the Internet?

I had heard on PBS during a show about a huge collider being built. the project was so large that pieces where divided among sci labs around the world. the individual computers were crunching huge amounts of info. to get all the info together and for the labs to communicate with one another a world wide link was developed= internet.
sounds plausible. sorry Al it wasn't you.

You gotta read The History of the Internet, by Vint Cerf, one of its architects.

The internet is a fantastic mechanism--but at the expense of total loss of our privacy.

I don't know if it is worth it......

The claim that Al Gore invented the internet was yet one more lie created by the Republican Party to discredit him. He never ever claimed to have invented the internet, but if you repeat a lie long enough, people will believe it.

Unfortunately, in this day and age, repeating a lie until it's believed seems to be one of the fundimentals of politics, to the cost of democracy. Sad

Both parties have damaged our democracy with lies. That part of it is too bad.

No politics on this forum, please!

*I* invented the internet. All steel players know that. And black guitars always sound best. Winking

Seriously, this is quite an improvement over FidoNet.

Contrary to Mr. Alan Brookes' belief the Republican Party did not tell me Al Gore invented the internet, I read it and heard it on the news. I don't recall any retraction of that statement from anyone. I respectfully ask Mr. Brookes to refrain from using any of my comments in his posts. Thank You. Winston May

...then don't quote things about Al Gore you know to be incorrect. There have been plenty of people pointing out that he never claimed to invent the internet, if you just look for them. It's a malicious lie perpetrated to belittle a man who has spent his entire life in public service, as did his father before him.
