Hi everyone,
I just started playing a lap steel 6-string recently and I'm wondering if there are any tips veteran players can offer about using the bar.

I've tried the 'bar' type ones: Dunlop Stainless Steel Pro Tonebar light, medium and heavy (919, 920, 921) and I can't seem to hold on to those-they slip out of my hand or are just not held in place securely enough to use properly. The only ones I seem to be able to use with some success are the Dunlop 'Lap Dawg'and Shub GS-1 types. At least those don't slip out of my grip, b/c of the 'beveled' or 'slotted' parts of those slides/bars.

From You-Tubes I've watched and things I've read I learned you're supposed to hold the bar with the thumb and middle finger, and use the first finger to steady the bar. Then for bar turns you don't bend your elbow but instead use the thumb and middle finger to turn it.
Maybe getting good with the bar takes a while, but I'm just wondering if I'm not holding the thing correctly. If there is an informative reference about these questions on SGF or somewhere else, would you please let me know?
Thanks
WS
