You're going to satisfy your hunger for wacky 10 string tunings, that's my guess.
I fear, however, that this will lead to further purchases including loud bowling shirts and those little paper umbrellas that go in cocktails.

On my wish-list for the longest time has been a 7-string Ultratone, and they always go for more than I can afford. I'm still wondering if there's something terribly wrong in the photos that my aging eyes didn't see. Looks like the fret board might be missing a piece at the very upper portion, and it does look like I'll need to replace the buttons. I did find the site that declares only 90 of these were made, and whether that's true or not, I don't know; I personally have never seen another 10-stringer in this style -- just those vulgar, ultra-rare 10-string EH-150 S/D's that prance about.
10 strings is waaaaay more than I need on a lap -- 7 I use all the time and the 8th one is, for me, there to crawl down to every now and then to just keep it from being lonely.
Mark, I've already gone through the ugly Haole phase and am currently, and maybe permanently, in the ugly hillbilly phase. James -- no idea on that third knob. When I spoke to the very nice, young, southern fellow on the phone who owned this, he said he knew that "at least the volume knob works," so I'm expecting the worst-case scenario with the electronics. No guitar case probably means his grandfather probably treated it like an old truck. Thanks, Jon!

Al,
I think you really got a great deal. The guitar is very rare and looks to be in great shape. It appears that a hand rest has been added, but it might be original to the instrument. I'm not sure.
The amp is a BR-1 and is the first "professional grade" postwar Gibson amplifier. I hear they sound great. They are very collectible. It might be worth spending a few bucks to restore it.

Hey Richard -- thanks, but your collection is still my envy. I am sending the amp to a fellow in Chicago I just recently dealt with for possible overhaul. Who knows what's inside?
