I'm a steel player from Washington State, and I will be making my first trip ever to Nashville this week. I will be there from Wednesday July 8 - Monday July 14. I'd appreciate any information on what might be happening steel-guitar-wise. Thanks for your help!!

re you staying through that monday, or leaving that day... if you're staying through Monday, then it's pretty much a requirement to go see the Time Jumpers at the Station Inn. Opens at 7, band goes from 9-11ish, but get there plenty early!!! Also go check out Bobbe Seymour's shop in Hendersonville...

Just a suggestion - email forum member Mike Sweeney and see if he can get you in for his "pedal steel guitar bootcamp." I did this about a month ago, and my take is that it forever changes the way I look at this instrument. I think even a day or two could be very useful. See this thread if you're interested - http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=158505

Of course, Monday nights for John England and the Western Swingers at Roberts Western World early evening, the Time Jumpers at the Station Inn at 9pm, and then you can take in lots of great steel players at Roberts, Legends, the Wheel, and others on Broadway in downtown Nashville most any night.

Naturally, no steel player's trip to Nashville would be complete without a trip to Hendersonville to see Bobbe Seymour and Danny Bentley at Steel Guitar Nashville. His hours are 9-4pm M-F, no weekends.

Thanks James and Dave for your suggestions. I obviously blew it when I picked the return flight, as I will be returning Monday and will miss a few great opportunities. But I appreciate your other suggestions on worthwhile things to do on the other days. I'm very excited for this trip!!!

Thanks again,
Barb

very overlooked is the steel player at rudi's country music cafe, next door to the midnite jamboree and the ernest tubb record shop.
in fact for the finest real country music without headbangin' volume, smoke and drunks.....
put rudi's on your list, saturday.
be sure to do the longhollow jamboree, too!
country....................
