how do you break yourself from picking up your fingers from behind the bar as this causes string rattle thanks for any help _________________ Mike Bowles |

Try to 'smack' the knuckles of the offending left hand......perhaps with a wooden ruler.....each time they lift off the strings. Just a tho't. |

Mike, I would suggest you concentrate on "holding the bar". It should not be just resting on the strings. You should be holding it and in control of it at all times. If you're doing that I think you'll find that your fingers will stay on the strings till you don't want them on the strings. Good luck and God Bless. Whip _________________ Whip Lashaway

I agree with Whip. Later on you can lift your fingers for different effects, which do regularly and unconsciously.

I seem to have the opposite problem. I tend to rest my left-hand palm on the strings behind the bar to prevent overtones and unwanted notes when I jump from one position to another. I guess it comes from having played the Dobro for 45 years. |
