Hal Higgins plays our National Anthem better than anyone I have ever heard-and I have heard the best. Quite a treat in store for all. Even Ben O'Dell will be flitting around keeping us all straight.......And we might be lucky enough to see the great Jerry Jaye on and off the stage.

Herby. sure anxious to see and hear you again. And I want to publicly thank you for all your wonderful arrangements of the pretty music songs. I tried my best to use your arrangemets on three songs I put on my latest cd-"Unfogettable", "Almost Like Being in Love" and "Thats All that Matters". Talented musicians like you make it possible for folks like us to play the good songs much better. Thanks publicly.See you soon. Room is ready too, as ordered.

I know that Bill will probably be on here pretty soon to give everyone an update on the show yesterday in Biloxi, but I want to tell you that it was one of the best shows we've had on the coast. Good crowd all day, and some very fine talent on the stage, and not just steelers either. I want to tell all that the back-up band was fabulous. Things went so smoothly all day long....I'm just sorry I had to leave so early (4:00PM) to drive back to work a job. I had a blast.....I'm sure there will be others in here talking about it, soon......HAL

Thanks to Bill and all the Gang. It was a great day and everyone had a wonderful time. One of the best shows we've had and the food was great. Sorry I had to leave just when Rob Parker was ready to start. Rob is one of our legends in almost everything. Singing, MC ing and now steeling. Phil Koontz was special and hope he comes back. Hate to have missed Gordon Dodson, Steve Sanford and Billy Carr and Roland Buras. Some of my favorite steelers. Kudo's to the backup band, they were outstanding and outdid themselves. Thanks again to Joe Wright and Connie and "Brother" amd Miss MINI MINNIE. Great Show ! Great People, and they do it everytime. Seen some old frieds, met some new ones. Loved every minute.
Blessings to all,
Doc Rickles

I just arrived from the Deep South show,
Mr Bill and Miss Betty, their staff and volunteers, brought to the fans an incredible show. Also they entertained many of us at their home Friday night. Looked like a "mini" convention there..great music, fine food, and lots of 'visiting'.
But the show..so much talent there. You expect great music from artists like Joe Wright, and Miss Connie, Herby Wallace,Bill Stafford,Phil Coontz,Hank Corwin,Ronnie Miley,Dr Bob Strum, and Clyde Bloodworth ...all top of the line artists. But there were players there, that most of us only know by name, unless you live in the area...or have met at some other show.
Hal Higgins,Joe Rogers,Royce Tarver,Doc Rickles,Jim Parker,Gordon Dodson,Jack and Martha Goodson,Ivan Reddington,Steve Sanford,R J Buras,Billy Carr,Mike Brewer,and a Hall of Fame stage band, with Woody Ledford,Johnnie Thomas,
and " MR Thumb" Bob Saxton,on guitars, and keyboard player Bob Allen. And Connies Brother,Aron playing harmonica.
Emcee, D.J.Hall of Famer,Romeo Sullivan.
And young Miss Cayla Kelton, as Miss "Mini" Minnie Pearl. And I'm sorry, some super bass players and drummers, and keyboard players, that I don't have their names.
These players brought to the fans some great music. I ask all of you ,if you can come to the next Deep South Steel show, I encourage you to do so..
I was in awe of all that talent, but not surprised..Bill and Betty Stafford , and their organization goes all out to entertain, feed, and offer hospitality to all who come...But these "local" players, are just some stars ,waiting to gain recognition they so richly deserve.
I'm sorry if I have missed someone..But my Kudos to all who came, and all that participated, to bring to the fans some great entertainment.
Thank all of you..you presented a great show...
My thanks to your club for allowing me to be a part of this show.

WOW!! The top of our accolades goes to Rob Parker. He is MR STEEL GUITAR SHOWS PERSONIFIED IN PERSON, and to have him on our stage is the biggest honor we could ever have. Thanks Rob for giving you to us this past Saturday.
I was made very, very proud by all of my friends here on this DSSG program and can find no words to fully appreciated all this friendship. Betty and I are most thankful to everyone. The new friends we met are now dear freinds, and our lives are more enriched.
Rob has nailed it about the quality of players we had. I will have more to say later, as I settle down from the adrenalin flow you guys gave me.
Special thanks to Ronnie Miley-this guy has more talent than anyone we could ever name as he played his great set with the best Hank Corwin, then stuck around till the end on drums, bass and anything else we needed that made this show so BLASTED GOOD! More later.

Thank you Mr Bill for the kind words..it was an honor and a privilege, to be a part of the show.
But you need to 'chastise' me for leaving out a great artist..Our long time friend and picking pal, Mr Ed Clark. He is a true legend in music..and sings so clear, and pure..And is only one of two players I have worked with, who carries an acoustic bass fiddle to play. The other was the late and great Ben Brogdon.
Sorry Mr Ed, you can fuss at me when next we meet...

Sorry Rob, I intend to submit more words later and try my best to really appreciate all. But, I am still in the overwhelmed stage and need to settle down a little so I can thank every one properly.
Talking about Ed Clark-one year on Scotty's show (many years ago when Wade Ray was on the stage during one of my programs there)Ed was singing one of Eddy Arnold's songs. During the vocal part, Wade walked over to me, put his arm on my shoulder and whispered "where did you find him". Now, with yours and Wade's comment about Ed Clarks talent, all is complete. It is a very special event when Ed is on our band stand and we are all grateful for what he gives us.

Bill Stafford has been a friend of mine for many years; we even did an album together about 20 years ago. It is always an honor and a pleasure to be a part of Bill's shows. This show was first class all the way. The venue, the backup band, and the lineup was all excellent.

Thanks again, Bill for allowing me to be there.

Each time I leave a steel show hosted by Bill Stafford, (Mr. Smooth), and the DSSGA, I say that it just can't get any better. My wife, Jane, and I left with a feeling of awe and a tremendous respect for the mastery of talent, in all areas, of this exciting show. Thank you Bill and Betty for having us in your home friday night with delicious food, fun and the finest of music. Thanks for having me on your show. Can't wait for the next one!

Another great steel show by DSSGA. First class musicians and folks all the way. Every player and singer was great but I do want to mention one player that has really come a long way in his steel playing since last year at our MSP show. Gordon Dodson played his 14 string EXCEL with the Julian Tharpe tuning. Shades of Tharpe all the way. Gordon is on his way to becoming one of the top 14 string pickers in the country. Thanks again to Bill and all of the DSSGA staff for another wonderful show.

Bill, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for allowing me to perform on the show. For so many years work has always kept me away from attending these shows. I was really looking forward to this one, and I was not disappointed. My only regret was having to leave so early to play another gig that evening. As it was, I arrived at my second gig with literally 15 minutes to set up and perform for the next 4 hours.

Your backup band was top notch, as well as the crew working stage sound. It was a pleasure meeting everyone and I certainly look forward to attending more.

Thanks!!!!

Ronnie, the pleasure was all ours. Be so glad to see and hear you next time. Standing invitation always.
Thanks to Bob Strum. He is one gacious gentleman and his playing leaves nothing to be desired. Great set with your two wonderful lead guitarist-Woody and John. Hope you are able to return for our next show too.
And our audience really apprecites Herby Wallace every time he is here. Glad to see improvements in his playing. Thanks Herby. Hope your stay here was comfortable. Come back again-SOON!!
A most wonderful treat was given to us by Phil Coontz. First time here and hopefully, not the last. A great player here folks and I was delighted to see him with us. Branson's loss for this past weekend-our gain. Great playing Phil and much thanks to you too.
Gordon Dodson-soon our steel guitar world will know this name as well as they knew and know Julian Tharpe. This guy is an amazing player-same calibre as Julian-and then tops that off with a suerb singing voice. So proud of him and the obvious support he receives from his lovely and talented wife, Jane. (MItzie, she taks pictures that compete with yours. You two should get together). (We missed Buck and Mitzie-he was in Texas for a show there-see you next time B & M).
Joe Rogers brought Cajun Land music to us on his set. Another great player here too. I need to learn more descriptive adjectives for these guys. So, back to school for me. Joe was an absolute delight with his steel playing and when he stood up and played his Cajun accordian, the crowd went WILD! They are still dancing this morning. Joe, you turned them all on and that on/off switch is still inoperative. See you next time too, hopefully.
Billy Carr gave us one of his best performances ever. I thank him for staying and playing a little later than his normal time. This was the best line up of players we have ever had. Hope to see this talented player in St. Louis and Texas one of these days.
More comments later, but I have to close with Hal HIggens. His National Anthem to open our program was the very best ever. And right after, Ms Cayla Ann Kelton gave a moving presentation about what our beloved America means to her. Then she led us in our Pledge of Allegiance to cement this opening program properly. Hal finished his program with "How Great Thou Art". And if any of you have not heard this man play and sing that song you have really missed out. His playing rivals that of John Hughey and no one rivals his deep, booming gorgeous voice. Audience was standing long before this song was finished. Very high marks starting this show.
More later.
