Hi guys,
In trying to get Yahoo messenger, I get this
pop-up message : "You do not hsve access to make the required system configuration modifications. Please
re-run this installation from an "administrator's
account".
What do I have to do to find an administrator's account ? Ed |

In Vista (not sure about XT) the only sign in with permission to do certain things is the "Administrator". When you first install the OS it will ask you if you want to set up an "Administratior" account. If you don't, or did not, I believe the default is word Administrator with no password (leave that field blank).
That should make you the administrator for that session until you sign off or reboot.
Other's may have better instructions.

What happens if you RIGHT click on the program and then LEFT click on "Run as Administrator"? |

You can enable the true Administrator account in Windows Vista and 7 by following the instruction found on this How To Geek page. Once you are able to login from the Welcome Screen, do what you must do, then log out. Do not use that account to browse to any website other than the Windows Update site. If you must download programs that are going to be installed from the Administrator account, do so from your User account, then log off, log onto Administrator and run the programs. Make sure you have an active, up to date anti-virus program before installing anything as an administrator. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

What Jack and Wiz said are both proper approaches. Either you log onto the computer with the administrator account (usually called administrator) or you use "run as administrator." At least in XP you can also hold shift and right click, then hit "run as..." and type in the account (probably administrator) and password.
If you don't have the administrator password, there are ways of either getting it or blanking it out. But it's easier to get it via traditional means, that is, see if you wrote it down somewhere |
