Excellent poster, great job. Just out of curiosity what is the purpose of the poster? Is it to increase interest in the church, Sacred Steel or to pay homage to the players?

Hi Del,
I can't stop watching/listening to your 9 minute video of you playing (the top one on your website). You start off with a Tubby Golden tune, you go into "DON'T LET THE DEVIL RIDE", a Lorenzo Harrison tune is next, etc, etc, etc.

You are an AWESOME steel player.

I was wondering if you'd be so kind to tell me what tuning did you use on the video I keep watching and lastly, are there any tabs of what you play.

Hmmmm...I'm assuming you are playing at least an 8 string lap steel. Since I "play" a 6 string lap, what tuning or string names would you suggest I use that would best get me to be able to try your tunes.

Thanks so much for any info you can give this NEW steel player.

Did Mother Tate play steel? Are there any photos of her?

Hello gentlemen,
Mark you are exactly right.Documenting and preserving our steel guitar music tradition and paying homage to those that made a contribution to it is what I am attempting to do.

Bringing to the forefront great African American steel players that are virtually unknown to the main stream.

The poster represents the churches long standing steel guitar legacy and will be available in limited quantities soon on our website and at the Sacred Strings Showcase August 15,2009.Thanks for asking these questions!

Darrell, No Mother Tate did not play steel guitar, the steel guitar tradition began in the late 1930's and unfortunately Mother Tate passed away in the year 1930.

So,this unique steel guitar tradition that would later distinguish her church from all others didn't even exist during her lifetime, but I'm sure she would've enjoyed it.

Mother Tates bust is on the poster out of respect as the founder of the church that gave birth to this music legacy, and we never want to forget that!

Hello Stephen Abruzzo and Kevin Brown,
I'm not exactly sure what tuning Nikki used on that particular clip, with her also playing keyboard she experiments with alot of tunings, but when she played my Sacred Strings guitar on the clip below she played my tuning which is G#,E,B,G#,E,B,G#,E.
Nothing fancy or special so good luck.

Del, can you elaborate a bit on the Sacred Strings Showcase? Where is it taking place?

Del that is some serious groove machine you got there, Iv just acquired D8 and I'm putting your tuning on the far neck in order to attempt to express myself through an e based tuning. That hi G sharp is going to throw me some wobblies as Iv only ever had the top E up there, would you say its essential in your style and could unlock a few mysteries in your soloing ? do you solo on it a lot ? or use the high E mainly and the G sharp when called for, my thanks for your time and your inspiration., Kev ( ever thought of the Rick Alexander Lap steel sessions in Dallas (March 2010) now thought would be COOL !)
By the way, I always have to write 'sharp' just where is the sharp symbol on your keyboard ?

Kevin,
For we Yanks to hit a #, Very Happy , we hit the Shift key (to make either a capital letter or use a character figure) and the "3" key simultaneously. The # is above the 3 and is accessed by hitting the Shift.

Hi Steve, thanks for that, mystery solved, us Brits are blessed with a pound symbol above the 3 key, just another reminder of how useless it is at the moment !

Hey Kevin,
I don't know if solo is the proper word here. It is more improvisation I think. In our style of music the steel guitar is the lead instrument so we have the responsibility to show creative and fresh rythm patterns on the fly.
