Chuck Campbell - Nameless Shuffle.

Personally I have tried to learn how to play the steel guitar over the pas t 25
years, Chuck Campbell knows more than I will ever learn after just 9 years of playing, and in addition he is tall, dark and handsome!!
How unjust can this world be??

Not trying to speak for any one else,but someone might want to do some home work before going too far with this idea.

This is hearsay only, but the word has floated around here in Texas that Emmons having composed the melody, does not want it used with the lyrics being used, as the arrangement was done without his knowledge or at least without his approval.

I certainly stand to be corrected and apologise to anyone and everyone involved, if this information is untrue.

Louie, you have been mis-informed....Laney would never have put lyrics to the song without Buddys' knowledge and approval...he even played on her version with lyrics on her CD, Matters of the Heart. The 'Russless' contest was for players to put their steel on the tracks of the whole Matters of the Heart CD, not just the Shuffle. I don't know if Buddy approves or disapproves of Chucks' project; that's not my business, but I can assure you that Laney had his permission before recording the version with her lyrics.

Whooh, lets all take a deep breath. This post was made with the best intentions of my good friend Steinar. While I am flattered that he thinks a version of Nameless Shuffle I played for him when he visited me a few days ago was deserving of a project to record and Tab. It was just conversation. He ask me to do it. Lets get one thing straight. To all that have heard me play, I’m no Buddy Emmons. I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I’m sharp enough to know I could not and would never attempt any project for fun or profit to improve on Buddy’s classic “Nameless Shuffle”. ( Or anything he has done) In plain and simple language, There is no project, and there will never be one from me. I have emailed Steiner and asked that he edit or close his post and just say something nice about me.

Apologies to Chuck and to others concerned for apparantly stirring an - unknown to me - hornet`s nest.
What Chuck writes is true, - I sat listening to him play, and since I genuinely like the way he did back up and turn around on the "Nameless Shuffle," I suggested that he come up with a steel course based on that great tune. And since he is an expert "BIABèr," he could easily have supplied a rhythm track.
Now, Chuck is as modest a guy as you will ever meet, and I thought that the only way to get him to show how good he really is, was to stir up some interest on the Forum for this project, and get him to actually do such a course, - which he would be perfectly able to.
However, I understand now that there are issues related to the "Nameless Shuffle" that might create problems, and hence I regret that Chuck himself had to intervene here on the Forum to smoothe possibly ruffled feathers, - all because of my post.
Again, this post was my doing - not Chuck`s - and I take responsibility and blame should this course suggestion have created unnecessary controversy.
Chuck is a gentleman who up through the years has contributed and given much to the Steel Guitar Family, and he certainly did not deserve any grief because of this, - I do.

And he`s still tall, good looking and plays better steel than I will ever do!

I think I can clear up the most important thing and that is to let everyone know I was totally aware of the lyrics and arrangement and had a small part in the arrangement in the modulation department. I even showed up for the session when Russ and Laney called. I don’t know how rumors get this far out of hand but it’s always best for the horse’s mouth to straighten them out. And I do mean horse’s mouth. Smile

Anyway, I don’t mind what anybody wants to do with the song with or without lyrics. Have a ball with my blessing.

What Larry Hamilton said.......the 'Horse' made a lot of people very happy when he showed up at the NTSGA show this past Tuesday nite...our friend Randy Weideman flew in from Nebraska to see Charlie McCoy and got to 'hang' with the Big E most of the nite...the last time Buddy did the Dallas show we were all watching him get set up for his set and the guy standing next to me turned to me with eyes tearing in anticipation and said 'I'd rather hear Buddy Emmons tune up than to hear anyone else play'...I understood completely.
