Last saturday the band I play steel in opened for Randy Travis in Hattiesburg, MS. I got to meet his steel player Steve Hinson. What a guy! He was playing a SHO-PRO and sounded GREAT! We met before the show but after the show we had a long time to visit and talk about steel guitars, amps, etc. He is a very nice guy, easy to talk to, and a very great player with great tone. And the Randy Travis song "1982"... naturally Steve nailed it. He is a super nice man. I had my picture took with him, and it's now hanging on my music room wall. It was a real treat and a pleasure for me to meet him. Thanks again Steve for your time.

Sounds like you had a great time, Mitch. The Randy Travis show is playing in my town this Sunday night. I should pick up some tickets and check it out! |

Chris,
I hope that you can make it. Steve told me that he would be using a NV1000 on that show. He said that his amp is a NV400 but because of weight restrictions on the airplane, he would not be able to take it. The NV1000 is being furnished for him, and he said that it will be his first time to ever use one. If you get the chance to meet him, take it. And tell him that I said "Hello".

Hi Mitch,
Yes, I was aware he was using a 1000, because I know the guy who owns all the backline in town. He could have used my Session 400 if he wanted, but I figured he used a 1000 regularly if it was specified on the gear list. I got a call yesterday about renting my Twin for that show as well, but they specified a Twin Reissue and mine's an original '71. If I end up seeing Steve, I'll say hi for you for sure. |

AND, Steve also can be found hanging out with Mike Johnson and Joanie Keller every now and then at Douglas Corner in Nashville as part of the "45 RPM" band. I think Steve is on Telecaster in that band.
If I am not mistaken I think Steve has also played great Steel on many of the Daryl Worley tracks and obviously many more...
I've not been to Douglas Corner to visit the 45 RPM band yet but hope to soon.

I do play electric guitar with 45 RPM...I seem to play my Les Paul more than my Telecaster though...we do a bunch of songs that Grady Martin played"Big Red"on(his 355(?))with an Echoplex...I'll bet I only play the Tele on 3 or 4 tunes...back on topic...we do have an exceptionally good steel player...Mike Johnson!Come see us,Tony! _________________ http://www.myspace.com/stevehinsonnashville |
