John,
You should always stop and answer the phone. It might be the "Idol" show calling. Mine rings when I'm recording, but it always turns out to be someone wanting to lower my mortgage interest rate, or sell me new windows.
Maybe if I got new windows, they could see in and see that I'm recording and leave me alone.
