Starting a new thread on my project. Easier to navigate.

I spray lacquered the bodies yesterday. One coat of Vinyl Sealer and 6 coats of Instrument Lacquer. From Mohawk Finishing.

I learned several lessons yesterday, one being that spraying is an art form.
Luckily, I was in touch with Philip Pritchard, finishing expert with Mohawk in N. Carolina and he talked me through this uncharted territory. Thanks for your help Philip.
Now I know that any faults with the finish rests entirely on my shoulders, and it will be valuable learning to take with me if there ever is a project#3
Here are some pics:

I'm not sure I got the right shade of red, but I'll have to live with that one...

The birdseye

Close-up of the logo. Credit and praise goes to my friend Per Berner in Sweden. This design was made entirely by him, I only made a suggestion as to the rustic look.
Notice in the "O", Per incorporated both the Canadian and Norwegian flags.
A fine testimonial to what I mean when I refer to us as the Steel Guitar Brotherhood.
Thank You, Per.

Thanks also to my steel playing friend, Gustav Haugedal in Norway, who came up with the name. Gustav, remember, I owe you a beer!

Stu, thanks for saying that. I wasn't so sure myself...in doubt about the shade of red used and the type of stain. It's good to know that someone likes it.

WOW, Bent, I love that shade of red. It looks fantastic especially with the natural deck ! Did you use a liquid stain? If so, how did you apply it? Looks as if it's nice and evenly applied. I will call the next few days and you can fill me in on your stain procedure. Martin.

Heck, I think the red looks terrific, too. Keep us updated!!

Hi all, thanks for all the nice remarks!

Martin, the stain I used was aniline powder. It mixes in warm water.
To arrive at that color, I used two parts crimson and 4 parts raw umber. The crimson alone was way too pink and too light.
One drawback with this stain is, I think it is somewhat of a hide stain and don't throw the grain out at ya.

Bent,
Lookin good,I like red I don't care what color it is.It seems a shame to do anything to a piece of wood that beautiful.

I know that you are like all hobbist, tinkerers, woodworkers, etc, you have spent/invested $$$ that didn't work as you would have liked it to. Next time, think leather dye, available in many colors, get the smallest size available and try it, I think you will like the results, it does not hide the figure of the wood. I would really like to see, and hear your work up close, and in person.
