I will be on vacation in San Diego the week of May 18th if anyone has any suggestions for where to go to hear some steel, pedal or nor pedal.

Check with Jim Palenscar in Oceanside, and visit his shop while you're here. Steel Guitars of North County.

Thanks for the plug Jim. Smile

Yes Tom...if at all possible, you might want to make a day of it to go visit Jim Palenscar's one of a kind steel guitar store during the day on Friday. That will also help you beat the northbound late Friday afternoon rush hour traffic from SD to Oceanside (North County SD)

If I'm not on steel, somebody pretty great usually is. If you like real country, you'll like this band.
All Ray Price, Johnny Paycheck, Buck Owens, Faron Young, etc. etc. We play every Friday from 4:30 to 9.

The address is:

McCabe's Beach Club
1145 S Tremont St, Oceanside, CA
(760) 439-6646

If I hear of anybody else playing around town while you're here, I'll let you know.

Hope to see you!

Rick

Rick - It was nice to meet you on Saturday. I will also try to get to McCabe's, but the time conflicts with "Cruise'n Grand" in Escondido - too many toys!

How was the surfing?

Hey Jim...nice to meet you too. Hope you can make it down to our little honky tonk at the beach some Friday.

I'm just now starting to sit up and take nourishment after getting my fair share of poundings after a relatively big day in the surf that afternoon...but I wouldn't have it any other way. Winking

Thanks for asking.

Rick

It was great getting to hear you last Friday, Rick. You are a great steel player.

I recommend McCabes and the California Rangers to anyone passing thru the area on a Friday afternoon.

Hey Rick-

Is Juanita's still going strong in Carlsbad, or is it the next town over (Encinitas?). Used to camp at Carlsbad State Park and drive down to the beach just south. Hit Juanita's after all day at the beach. Can't beat good cheap Mexican food after the beach.

Man, the Pacific Ocean and a steel guitar store too! You are blessed.

I had to cool it with Juanita's a bit - it got to where I couldn't lay on my longboard comfortably, due to my burrito-enchanced pot belly. (The real reason I knee-paddle these days.) : )

But seriously, folks, the Calif. Rangers at McCabes is well worth the trip on a Friday afternoon.
