Well,

I had a rockin' good time yesterday. It was my first live exposure to the Campbell Brothers Band and the sacred steel tradition. They really had the R&B and blues groove happening. Heck they even sounded vaguely country on a tune or two.

Chuck Campbell was playing a 12 string Excel. Brother Darick was playing an 8 string console that I could not identify. Son Carl on drums. Brother Phillip on guitar and Malcolm Kirby on bass. Denise Brown was the vocalist. She and the boys had the crowd on their feet for 90+ minutes...Man!

It was music with a message that the crowd just dug. The virtuosity of the musicians was just amazing. I left their set darned energized.

Listening to these guys is like dropping into a steel guitar parallel universe. I plan to visit more often.

The Campbells are awesome, and I have had the good fortune to hang with them a bit on a few occasions. They are really nice guys!

I can't imagine anybody not enjoying a Campbell Brothers show, no matter what kind of music you listen to.

One correction, Carlton is Phil's son, not brother.

Great musicians, great guys.
They even let me sit in with my Asher for one song (15 minutes long) last summer.
Had a great time ! Smile

Make sure to check out the Lee Boys when they come around as well. Roosevelt just tears it up on his Fessy.

Fellow forumite Pastor Del Ray Grace is no slouch either. Wee bit of volume adds to the occasion.
