I'm still using the same JBL D-130 15" Speaker in my Fender Twin, that I purchased back in 1966.

The amp originally came through with twin 12" JBL D- 120's, that I removed and intalled the single 15" in.

I've never had a problem and it's never been reconed. It has been bounced around in vehicles, left in below zero degree weather in vehicles overnight from time to time, and yet it is still going strong. Remarkable!

I was wondering how many others might still be using their original JBL D-130..

I was up until a while ago when it died ignominiously in the middle of a low-volume gig. I need to bring it for reconing next time I'm in Nashvegas.

I was using it in a fairly small cab with a '69 Dual Showman Reverb head. Right now I'm using an EVM instead. It's weird - a lot of stuff seems to sound best just before it goes south, and this was no exception.

Dave you have a good point there. I think when that happens, I'll simply give her a decent burial, since she's been so good.. Very Happy

I still have the original orange basket JBL in my '76 Vibrosonic.
I think it shines best for clean 6 string electric tones. A bit to treble-ee for steel for my ear.
It doesn't do very well with an octave pedal (my new method of tesing "low end" in side by side speaker comparisons here at home).

i had a sho-bud amp with the dials and lights in the corner...it had a d130 jbl...i wish i still had that amp, even though my ltd400 is actually better. i'd like to put a good jbl in it to try.
a local steeler here in the 70's had a trick of hanging a weight somehow to deform the paper on his jbl speaker that he swore caused the sound to improve immensely.

I have an old Sho-Bud "Christmas Tree" Amp with what I assume to be the original JBL 130F speaker. Although I did'nt buy the amp new, I have had it for at least 20 years. As it has two separate channels, I use it on a regular basis for both lead guitar and steel (Jackson Blackjack "Full House") at "country showcase/jamboree" type venues, as well as Legion dances, etc. I prefer a "clean" sound with just a touch of reverb, and a little bit of delay. The amp has never let me down, and (IMHO) has "tone to the bone". I've tried other amps, but I can't find anything else that I like the sound of as well as this old girl.

I have one virgin JBL D130 16ohm from the 50's, before the 'F' designation and before the orange paint. The sister to this one finally had a tear on the surround that could not be patched. It was reconed about 6 months ago and wound to 8 ohm.

The virgin D130 cannot handle the volume and low notes that the reconed one can. Paper degrades over decades, kinda like I do. But it still sounds good at low practice volumes. It stays home at gig time.

I have two Sho-Bud "Christmas Tree" amps - one with a 15" JBL D130F, and the other (brown covered "Sho-Bud Custom" with gold "rope braid" trim around the speaker grill), which has a 15" JBL "model M31" speaker. This speaker looks & sounds very much like the D130F...just wondering if it is the same speaker with a different model #, or what?

Mine stays home, but it still sounds fantastic.

I swapped a Weber 15 into the Twin to replace it, and it's quite nice, but nothing matches the 40 years of mellow-roonie of the JBL.

I have two "Christmas tree" Sho-Bud amps with 15" JBL's. I use them all the time for low-volume gigs, with one channel set for my six-string, the other for steel. On every gig I get compliments on the tone. This amp/spkr combination is the best I've ever had, and I've had em all at one time or another. To my ears, these amps sound more like a tube amp should, and they of course are not tube amps! I prefer the warm, mellow, clean sound of these amp/spkers. They are not suited for high volume, rock pickers. "Play it again, Sam! Lonnie

Well my old Standel 80L15 has one and it's still kicking and sounding awesome. I also have the two 25L15s reissue with D-130s and they also sound great. In fact, I still play gigs with the 80L15 and it is close to 50 years old.

I have two, the second of which I don't remember how I got it. The other came in a Webb but has been moved to various home made cabinets. Have had two re-cone jobs which had to be custom since JBL doesn't support the 4 ohm speakers any more.
