I was at a digital advertising seminar the other day and it was highly recommended that we start making use of Twitter. I've always been sceptical--thought it was just a lot of people who are just full of themselves. However, I've been trying it for a couple of days now and I can see some real potential for us. It's a great way to keep everyone in the loop about who is playing where, news and information, and some real interaction from shows we play.

Anyone else using it?

I'm on Twitter. I got there because so many of the States and Federal lawmakers are there.

Cameron,

I found you by searching "pedal steel" in Twitter (I have standing search for that in TweetDeck). Take a look at:

http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=156213&highlight=twitter

You'll see that not long ago, I added the #pedalsteel hashtag. b0b uses it and a few others. I see momentum building for a Great Pedal Steel Presence on the "Interwebs"! Today the Twitterverse, tomorrow the world.

We've been using twitter for a couple of months at work but we use it as an extension of our farm news broadcasts. It has its ups and downs but it offers another touch point with our listeners.

A lot of writers, musicians, actors, etc. use twitter to promote their products, to generate interest in their projects. Cameron, it's interesting that twitter was being promoted at an "advertising seminar" you attended. That makes perfect sense. In my opinion, twitter is a waste of time for the average person. As far as steel guitarists, the Steel Guitar Forum is about as "connected" as I want to be. Winking

Edit:/ I deleted my rude post (my apologies)

but this twitter thing is just a personal time waster. I can see its application in business and maybe marketing, and so the melding of the business and personal, but why do people have the need to (pretend to need to) broadcast the trivia of their life?

Bring back the days when we qeued in line at a public phone booth when we needed to call someone, I say!

As far as Twitter being only for the young, I'm 47. I love it...I'm connected to lots of artists, radio people and others who have the same interests as me.

I'll try most new things...don't want to turn into a museum piece!

I use both Twitter and Facebook. I don't follow people who tweet the minutia of their lives every hour on the hour. Just not that interested.

There's a hashtag #pedalsteel on Twitter that we use for steel player tweets. Search for #pedalsteel and you get the whole chain.

So b0b, unless you put #pedalsteel in the actual sentence, it won't show up, right? Because my name is pedal steel, so you would be getting my trivialities.

I really don't know, Brian. I don't use my web browser for Twitter. I use TweetDeck instead. I have a column set up in it for #pedalsteel tweets. I see some of yours in it, but they all contain the #pedalsteel hashtag.

That's funny, Ron. Cool

When the Forum has problems like it did yesterday, I post notices about it on Twitter and Facebook. You don't have to join Twitter to see these status updates - you can remain anonymous. Just bookmark my Twitter homepage for future reference:

I've been wildly impressed with what I've gotten from it for my business by using it carefully (i.e. careful selection of who I follow, etc.). I now get incredibly helpful ideas and resources for my business that I previously would either have never gotten or gotten muuuuuuuuch less quickly. I don't really know if it's been a business builder for me to this point but it's certainly helped me maintain and build my expertise. I was mightily skeptical and am now a huge fan. (And, yes, I even check in on #pedalsteel now and then.)
