Ok,
I'm going fishing in the Florida Keys next week with my brother, a great guitar player, and I thought I'd bring an old lap steel so we could jam and at least boogie a little under the alcofluence, ya know. Anyway, I decided on an old Fender Deluxe 6 with the trap pickup I bought about 15 years ago and haven't played much.

So, I took it off the wall and plugged it into my "59 Champ amp and it was pretty cool, except I thought it sounded a little muffled. The hi strings were all coroded and the others were flat rounds. So, I decided to change the strings.
Once, I got the strings off I thought it might be reasonable to see how much history I could get out of this old girl. So, I pulled the the tuning pan. The unpainted wood inside had the pencil inscription "Raul". There is a stamped number on the outside of the pan "910"

Howard,
Of all people to have responded to that ridiculous post, I'm really glad it was you.
When I posted that message yesterday, I was pretty much FUBAR (if you don't know this acronym, send me a PM). As is my habit, I always check the SGF every morning, and I was happy to not find myself flamed by a lot of forumites.
Instead of being flamed, it looked like my post was being ignored. That's worse than being flamed, or maybe not. I'm not sure 'cause I'm kinda FUBAR right now.
Getting back to the point. This little 50 plus year old Fender is just great. I just photographed the little mamma and will be posting interior and exterior photos soon.
Thanks for your response. I loved Orchi Chonya, i.e. "Dark Eyes"
I get to NYNY from time to time. I'd love to meet you and yours. We probably have more in common than steel guitars.

 ...plastic wiring spliced into the original cloth, probably replaced pots and cap.
With the script logo on the plate, I'll guess 1956.
They started making the Stringmaster version in 1957.
I've got a 1954 Deluxe 8 with the block lettering on the metal plate and 739 stamped into the tuner tray. |
