Thought I would share some pic's, 12 coats of Nitro sanded every 2 coats. Decided to keep the bottom side original as possible. Guitar started life as Blonde and Red.

Dave, absolutely stunning work! I can only hope that my current projects turn out like yours.
12 coats huh?
Did you use a sealer underneath the nitro?
My lacquer (Mohawk) recommends up to 4 coats of vinyl sealer and approx 6 coats of nitro on top.
I wish I could see your gitar in person to observe the true result of your work.
My hat's off to you!

| Wow, that's a great looking guitar. I like the red and natural too, but if you're going to redo it, this is about as good looking as it gets. Very refreshing to see one with the original parts and not all chopped, chromed and toasted. Two thumbs up. Nice work. |

Bent,
I do not like sealers on natural wood, I mixed a 25 / 75 coat of laquer and thinner and applied a medium to light coat. Let the solvents escape about 3 days and sand with 800 paper, accomplishes the same thing and no opaque color / bleading to deal with.
I should say I was a refinish technician in the auto industry for 17 years. If a fly lands in this thing I hope he is wearing NIKE's or he will bust his ASS.

So pretty it hurts!!!!
By the way, maple doesn't need any sealer coats, does it? As far as I know, sealer is only needed on porous woods, like mahogany, walnut, rosewood, etc., while non-porous woods like ebony, maple, beech, birch etc do fine without. |

| That is GAW-GEOUS!....sort of a ZB-like color combo. I'm with Roger on this one...I love the white fretboards but on this one I think I would leave the black on there. But either way.....wow! |
