Hi,
I am looking for a good basic OMI Dobro. Square neck. Pre-Gibson OMI. Nothing fancy just good sounding and playing in decent shape. I can't afford to spend the bucks for a highend Dobro type of guitar but I don't want to go with an import so I figure a basic OMI is best. I do have a '54 Fender Dual Professional D8 or a '63 Fender 400 or some cool vintage tube amps I might consider in a fair trade arrangement.

Thank you,
Cliff

FWIW, I'd like to suggest that you reconsider some of the imports -- particularly the Paul Beard signature Goldtone, Standard model. In bluegrass dobro circles, they are very highly regarded as the best available at their price (about $600 new, case extra). They all are upgraded with Beard cone, spider, etc. If you get one through Beard's shop, it'll be set up by the Beard shop. It is a very good guitar! BTW, Wechter-Scheerhorns are also highly regarded, for a few hundred $ more.

I don't know much about Dobro-brand dobros, except that you rarely see one at bluegrass festivals, at least in the Northeast. The really old ones have their own sound, for sure, but any decent modern instrument will be distinctly more powerful -- Goldtone Beard, Wechter-Scheerhorn, the occasional Regal Black Lightning, others with Quarterman, Scheerhorn, or Beard cones.

BTW, I'm a just a happy Beard owner (Goldtone Beard, then Beard R and Mike Auldridge models) I still own and play my Goldtone Beard, tuned to open D, along with the other two -- ...and I don't work for any instrument companies Smile

HTH, Chris
