Does anyone have experience with the small-bodied electric upright bass? Is there one which compares favorably to the full size dog house bass? Am looking to move from the Jazz/Precision type to the EUB. Any help would be appreciated. |

According to the first link provided by Steve, there are over 250 EUB makers. |

When I was making my decision regarding which EUB to get, there weren't nearly as many makers as there are today. The things about Bill Merchant's Vertical bass that I liked then still set it apart from the rest IMO. His technique of mounting the bridge on sprung spruce bars gives it a more "acoustic" feel than any other EUB I've played. He will also duplicate string length and neck shape from the bass of your choice. Ideally, you would play before you buy, and it would be a good idea to have an (openminded) acoustic bassist along for advice. |

I don't play bass, but my good friend and bandmate, John Duer plays an Ergo. The Ergo, played through a good amp system sounds very close to an acoustic upright bass.

I have a Dean. It doesn't have the most natural upright feel, but it is EXTREMELY compact and portable. In that regard, it's my favorite. It feels like an electric, but feels great for what it is. Relatively inexpensive, and actually sounds very good after you twiddle with the eq a bit. _________________ Scott Shipley Facebook |
