I'm stepping outside my usual country genre and backing up my fabulously talented folk-pop singer-songwriter daughter, Jen McClung, this Saturday, April 3, at a cozy San Pedro coffee house. It's going to be a fun, creative, artsy evening, sure hope you can make it. Our onstage chemistry is unique and funny, so don't miss this one! I'm playing pedal steel (MSA D-12), Dobro, and acoustic guitar, plus singing a bit, and most of the songs are Jen originals.

Full details below. All ages welcome, bring the kids and pets. But come early to get a good seat, it's very limited.

If you want to dine in San Pedro before the show, these places are highly recommended and right in the same block: Senfuku for sushi; Sixth Street Bistro for mid-priced California eclectic; Beach City Cafe for tropical entrees.

-----------------

Hi everyone ~

It's that time again. Another Jen show! Come check out new songs, old
songs, and a few choice covers. I'll have the Biddy Band with me as
well as Mr. Twang - so the night will be extra rockin'. If that's not
enough to excite your appetite for fun and entertainment, I've invited
a few friends of mine to open and close the show - author Susan M.
Brooks will be reading excerpts from her new book "She's the Girl",
and singer/songwriter Brett Perkins will be showcasing his
songwriting chops with his band as well.

The purpose of this night is to give in dependant artists space and
time and support to do what they love - be it song or spoken word.
Please come out to support not only us, but the idea that poets and
authors and songwriters can still survive (and even thrive!)in a pop
culture so bent on quick fixes and watered down content. (Getting off
my soap box now...)

In case you've forgotten where you live, if you're in Long Beach, Torrance, Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Harbor City, Hawthorne, Carson, Bellflower, Lakewood, Lawndale or Gardena...live music with a steel player doesn't get any closer!

Big thanks to all you steelers who came to this wonderful show I did with my daughter, Jen: Billy Woo (and his charming wife Becky and daughter Erica); Chris Christiansen; Joel Martin; Chris Allen Burke (thanks for the top-notch heckling, CAB!); Anita Merritt. Hope you all enjoyed the music.

I love applying the pedal steel (and Dobro) in delicate touches on a gig like that, very different than the country bar style.

John

What a nice refreshing way to play steel and it seemed quite fitting with the music of your very talented & lovely daughter, Jen. The dobro was just the right touch almost giving it a Union Station type sound..to her style. Way to go Mr. Twang..now when are you gonna record it?
