Here's a pic from a current eBay auction. Can anyone ID the steel player - about 75% visible on the right?

HI ANDY,

I'm going to take a wild guess that it may be
"STEPPY De RIGO".
I saw his photo on a compilation CD a few years ago.

ROGER

*CORRECTION* Steppy's family name is: De Rego

Mitch, that is a young Gabby Pahinui in your photo. I don't think Andy's "mystery player" is him.

I believe Andy's photo is from the late 1940s or early 1950s. Smile

Looking into my archives I found this info in the Mel Abe file. I believe I showed Mel this same pic the yr he played at Jerrys ho o laulea at the Ala Moana hotel. From what he said and my memory is correct the uke man is Ralph Alapa'i and the bass man is Joe Diamond. My notes are old and faded and memory is even worse so don't take as gosple.cc

I sent Andy's photo to a friend in Honolulu and he is quite sure this group of dancers are SAMOANS and not HAWAIIANS.

He has no idea who the steel player is. Question
