the answer is, ....the night that the bass player for the texas troubadour's was so sick that he could not perform and "the legend" answered the call and for that one night was an official texas troubadour and shared the stage with the great buddy charleton and leon rhodes and of course, ... "the boss"
earnest tubb. it don't get no better.
may 9th, ...the rest of the story...from "the legend" |

A steel players dream, the Legend, Tom Fortenberry. Western swing and Classic Country bass at its best. Everything from Bob Wills to Ray Price. Note for note. A pleasure to call him a friend and to share the same stage with. Truly a musician's, musician! See everybody there on the 9th. Originally scheduled for the 2nd but had to be changed to get everybody on the same date. Add one of the greatest entertainers to come along in a long, Jack Harper, to the show and you know what's coming! Bet ole Andy might throw in some Conway like "Just Destroyed The World" and others. Lots of fun folks. Anybody that don't want to haul there steel, amps, etc. is more than welcome to use mine. Remington on the Emmons set up with DD3 & 112. Very simple and easy to play. |

no, ...not the geezinslaw's, ...but,...lonzo & oscar
when i asked the lady at the piggly wiggly in prentiss, mississippi, who she had been most impressed by when she saw "the legend" playing with on a grand ole opry package show, she said it was around 1968, 1969 or 1970 and she saw "the legend" a coupl'a times with lonzo & oscar.
she did say she thought that he, "the legend", was a lot more handsome than cousin jody was when she had seen them at the opry in the '50's! |

If things will let me, I will be there to honor Mr. Tommy Fortenberry. Tommy is and always has been a great supporter of those who play steel guitar. I have great admiration for this great bassist. He's definitely "a legend" and it's not only in his mind. Hope to see many of my friends at the show in Magee. HAL _________________ HAL...Excel D-10 w/ 8 & 5. Just got in from the celebration for Tommy Fortenberry at Magee, Ms. Lots of great talent there- worthy of being on anyone's stage. Thanks to all for allowing me to be on your stage this afternoon. Enjoyed all the talent there. Congratulations to Tommy for all he has done in our Mississippi music world.

i stayed 'til they locked the doors!
the absolute most and best country music i've heard from one stage in a long time and not being a steel guitar show, more steel that anybody could ask for.
fiddle, did anyone say, fiddle? amazing young lady and then the day finished with the dean!
the guest of honor was in hillbilly heaven all day and then finished the evening doing what he does best
special accolades to another legend on hand,
bob saxton, played guitar almost nonstop from the start to the finish. a day for legends.
all i can say is, if this is what it takes to have this much country music, then, maybe a special
tommy fortenberry day should be on the calender once a month.
special thanks to joe & cleo garner and the boy's.
music city, the country music capital of mississippi! |
