| I've heard it and it's great. Bobby Robles who plays guitar on it sent me an advance copy. Kimo - AKA Jimmy Delgado is a fine player with a nice touch and spot-on intonation - no wonder since he studied with Jerry Byrd. He plays some tunes with a sort of sweet singing blues guitar tube amp sound - not quite the crunch of David Lindley but a tad of "hair". Other stuff he plays w/a real clean Hawaiian sound. Song choice is a little off the beaten path which I also like. He does a nice version of the old 60s Jorgen Ingman tune "Apache". I recommend a listen. |

Thanx for the info about his studying with JB and the follow up review, Michael. I too found the song selection to be a bit out of the norm which intrigued me.
It'll be on my Christmas list for sure now.
Santa's gonna need a bigger bag and a coupla more reindeer this year... |

Ron; It that the same Kimo who I believe was a Radio DJ when I lived in Honolulu back in 1980?

You're probably thinking of Kimo Kahoano, who is a great DJ, MC, hula/knife dancer, singer (can do Don Ho better than anyone), and a very nice guy. Sorry, You-Tube doesn't work with my WebTv! I wish it did! Yes, I think Kimo Kahoano is who I was thinking off! While I have you on the line (thread), do you know an older steel player who owns a D-10 Non-Pedal Mahogany Sho-Bud that reads JEB Custom on the right-front apron and also an old Black (recovered) Fender Bassman Amp.? I can't remember his name, but; he bought this Combo from me in May of ’80, before I moved back to Nashville. He called it his Cadillac Steel.

Kimo hooked up with Bobby Ingano this weekend after meeting during convention doings and they ended up swapping steels, with Kimo getting a truly awesome 7 string short scale fry-pan (which once belonged to THE Tommy Castro and has graced most of Bobby's recordings) for his '54(?) and very mojo'd twin Fender Deluxe.
Both are very happy with their new guitars, tho I understand it was difficult for Kimo to part with his 'baby'. But the Rick he now owns is probably the best/easiest playing steel around.
Congrat's to both! |

Finally!, I got to listen to Kimo's CD today (Happy Mother's Day, you mothers!), and am enthralled with his 3 Ts - talent, tone, and taste. If this is what the man can do with only his first steel CD, then we hopefully will have many more years of top shelf product to enjoy. I was already a fan from hearing about his recent stay on Oahu, but after hearing his playing, I can't wait for more.

Ron,
Kimo attended but unfortunetely he did not play at the Quenn Kapiolani during the week. I met him and he is a sincere right on guy that studied under Jerry Byrd. He gave me a copy of his Kimo Tharapy. He has a fine touch for the Hawaiian feel. |

I had the chance to meet Kimo Delgado this last weekend when he played at Don the Beachcomber's in Huntington Beach, CA, He got terrific sound out of his old Rick bakelite steel, and yes, just a touch of hair on the tone. Great music by a fine gentleman.
