Check out our take on a piece by J.S Bach. Me on reso and (fellow steeler) Daniel Wigstrand on nylon string guitar.

A first taste of our new dobro & guitar duo project that might result in a future cd release.

Very, very nice tone on that reso! What lead you to play that piece with a swing?

Loved it!

I'd also like to hear a straight version, without the swing and glisses. Of course, if you had done a straight version, I might now be asking for the swinging version. But, swing and country styling have become so tightly associated with steel guitar, among the public and players, that there's a real need to show how beautiful steel can be played without that ubiquitous style. Just a thought.

Thanks for all the comments!

The instrument I'm playing is built by czech luthier Karel Zacal and is a large bodied maple guitar with soundpost and baffle construction. Very responsive and with great tone and projection even though it's a new instrument and the wood hasn't opened up yet.

Our first intention was to play it straight and in a more "correct" classical fashion but we ended up playing the 16th notes like swinging 8ths instead, just jamming on it while rehearsing. Some passages in the second part actually make for some fine bop lines. Smile This particular kind of piece is hard to do justice on a slide instrument, if to be done "correctly", due to all the bar movement and slight sliding required, so I decided to give it even more steel guitar character.

But showing the resonator guitar's potential as an instrument to interpret "serious" classical music on is somewhat of a dream project, which I hope to get to accomplish someday.
