Hello men of steel. This is my second year to make the Waterloo Iowa convention. Wow! What a super time. I again played with the Dennis Detweiler and his guys. This post isn't so much about all the great player/playing that went on, but more about the attitudes of the wonderful folks that attended. My life long friend Dennis and his guys, and all the players have bent over backwards to make me feel welcome. And yes, I'm just a fiddler. One thing I would like to get across to all musicians in the world is that although steel players are about half nuts, [have to be to try something like playing a steel] they are truely the most wonderful folks I've ever met in 35 years as being a professional. Lefty? I don't believe there is a better, kinder man on earth. Kirk D, mark, eddie L, Dale T, Curtis K,Terry B. Dennis D, the list is long. Thanks you all for making the convention such a great place to be. I can't wait until next year. I WILL see ya there. Dale

Dale, the Waterloo Jam is a wonderful place to be in Feb. It is a community of friends whether they know you or not. Now if we can get you Missourians to envite more neighbors, we'll find them seating. The Electric Park Ballroom is a fabulous place for the event, what will we do when we outgrow that place?
Next year Fiddler.

Ok, now, let's talk about Dale Hopkins. Talk about a great friend! You won't find a better one. Since I have been playing steel, about 3.5 years, I have found the steel community to be very kind and helpful. Especially the Iowa players like: Lefty, Dennis, Dale T, Curtis Kloft who have helped me a great deal. I am very thankful for these people in my life. The Iowa jam is one big family event that just keeps getting better all the time. Dale-looking forward to having you back. Welcome to the family my friend!

Brother Dale, we're all known by the company we keep. You fit right in. It was a great weekend with great music and friends. Too bad your fiddle wasn't back from the repairman in Knashville. And on your way home he called your cell phone and said it was finished? :~(
Next year you'll be in the comfort zone with that great sounding old antique fiddle.
Thanks for being a great ole friend and coming up to Waterloo to work our set. And working with a few others with their sets.
Hopefully, I'll see you in about a week.
Dennis

Yes I did get my fiddle back. Now it makes me want to go back on the road, or at least find more steel conventions to play. Thanks Dennis for letting me play with you. It takes us back about 25 yrs don't it? Thanks again players!

Hahaha! Yeah..25yrs ago. We were a little faster then? I think that's why the dancers thought we came from hell and the cloggers thought we were sent from heaven.

Kirk, you're right... It feels like a big family reunion to me. How fortunate could a man be to get to know such a fine lot of gentlemen and musicians. One thing I've learned is steel guitar players are not in the same class as other musicians. Alot of musicians meet another musician and when they meet for the first time they say, Hi, I'm better than you'! Steel players ask, "what tuning do you use"? I've got to say, Steel Guitar Players are truely the top of the line players. I love their attitudes. Lefty told me that he'd see me next year. He said "you're one of us". That means more to me than any award I've ever recieved. So,, See ya next year.
