| I have been trying to find a pair for my Mullen but can not locate any, Carter said they may have them in a few weeks ? Lace (who makes them) don't get back to me ? I want to replace my single coils (that I love) but for some reason the hum has really gotten exceptionally loud, like to try em'...Bob |

Bob,I love my single coil too and mine is starting to feed back just by having the amp on, don't know whats up with that unless it's starting to get microfhonic. I've read great reviews on these PUPs (alumitones) and i'de like to try one.
I called Lace and they are supposed to call me back but it looks like if they'er not going to call you they probably won't call me either. Roger |

| Roger, I have one in my Zum Hybrid. I really like it. Nice single coil type sound without any harshness but still has plenty of bite. |

I have an Alumitone in my 12 string.
There is some confusion as to what these pickups are, They are in fact Alumitone bass bar pickups.
I was told by Lace they are the same with no mods except a mount that carter may or may not add on..
this is where I got my chrome ones.

From what i'm reading about these i'm anxious to try one. The characteristics of a SC and quieter than a humbucker, this is a "MUST TRY" for me.

Yep, Jeff Lace was very clear about it at NAMM - the Alumatone bass bars ARE the steel pickups folks are trying.
Basically (pun intended) most modern bass pickups are far more "full range" than those of the 60's, as players nowadays use more popping and slapping tones along with far more "up the neck" sounds, and high overtones are vital. So while a vintage bass pickup might be muddy, the Alumatone will have no such problem .
Not only that - but for lap steel or things like Fender 8-strings, the stock guitar models appear to be fine(I'm finalizing info in this). Because the frame is essentially a winding, if the outer strings are in range of the magnetic field they''ll be picked up fine. Since I use multiple pickups on my 400 I want to try either a Strat set or two Strat models and a P-90 in the middle with a Strat-type 5-way switch and a few other wiring tricks.
Seymour Duncan also has a few thing up his sleeve, so there should be some fun pickup variations soon....

The confusion is just confusion and I thought it needed clarification.
The Carter quote is.
(Actually the Alumitone Bass Bars were derived from a steel guitar pickup.)
Implying that some how there are two pick-ups, one evolving from the other.
I would like to personally thank John Fabian for pursuing and furthering PSG research and development.

| I finally got my order in for 2 for my Mullen, they make them in black and chrome. I ordered black they should sound better ?? They say they are back ordered by a month, I talked to "Lace" who makes em' and they said they were backordered with parts also. I understand the steel guitar community has made a rush on em' hope they are as good as everyone says...Bob |

Michael,
I don't see your pickup or any specific steel guitar pickups on the Lace website. I have a GFI D-10. What exactly would I order and from whom? Did you get yours directly from the Lace Co.? Was it easy to install without modification? And most of all, did it give your bass sounds a lift?
For those who experience hum from single-coil pickups, you might find that just moving the guitar around in relation to the amp. will make a difference in the level of hum. Check it out. |

| I put one on my Rains a couple months ago and it turned out to be a VERY GOOD investment, and It's ever thing i was hoping it would be. I allways loved what a SC does for your sound but the hum was hard to deal with some times. With these PUPs besides the no hum factor, came with some very nice benefits like SC sound but better, cuts through the mix better than any PU i've owned, the lows mids & HIs are very nice from the 1rst fret to Hughey land, makes vibrato a lot easier or more distinguishable. I know this sounds a little like a sales add but for the ones that have'nt tryed one yet i'm just trying to give some insight to what i've experienced with these PUPs so far. Roger |

I ordered one of the bass bar pickups from Bobbe and got it today. I put it on my E9th neck of my EMCI. I lowered the pickup as low as it would go away from the string. I plugged it into my Webb 614E and man alive, I had to turn the volume down on the amp about 3 numbers. The pickup is a hoss. It has clarity and a great sound to it. I don't regret spending the money it cost. The best sound I've had and I've had about every kind of pickup made.
