Anyone use these amps? HRD has an efx loop. I need to put together a simple rack (efx, tuner, inputs) for steel, Tele, and dobro. Don't want to have carry tube pre and power amps.

| If you mean for pedal steel, I've tried them and they don't have nearly enough clean head room for me. Some people say the HR Deville with twice the power works. That might work for me for blues and rock, but I need 100 clean watts for country or anything where I want a lot of clean sustain with the volume pedal. It's more about the VP sustain than the sheer volume. |

The HR Deluxe is rated at 40 watts, and I also believe from experience that they do not have nearly enough clean headroom for Steel, the HR Deville is the exact same layout but is rated at 60 watts. Effects loop and all. This is the amp I now use for double duty and it is a stark difference from the HR Deluxe with regard to headroom. I play in bands that have been known to push the bandstand volume and this amp has cut the gig every time.

When I first started playing PSG - a little over a year ago - the only amp that I had was a Fender HRD. Try as I might, I could not get the tone (that dirty word) that I sought. Borrowed a spare NV112 from my teacher and it seemed as if my guitar came alive. The rumor mill has it that Peavey is working on a successor to the NV112 albeit with a problem or two along the way. Rather than spring for the big bucks now, I'm going to cool my heels in anticipation of Peavey's release of their new amp in the not so distant future. Vacuum tubes versus solid state? I'm not so experienced as to be able to render a meaningful opinion but, like you, I'm going to try several models before I make the big leap. I wish you well in your quest. |

Thanks. I have a couple of N400's that have been in storage after I started using a Twin and a Blues Jr.
I've been using a pedalboard but since my feet are already busy I need to go to a rack. And I don't want to have to use an outboard pre and power amp. Not yet anyway.
So the N400's w/ their loops and power amp in may get another lease on life.

I play in stereo with a HR Deluxe and a WEBB. I agree the HD Deluxe doesn't carry enough umph by itself, as it does lack bottom end... but when blended with a WEBB... the combo kicks butt. It's the tube sound that is the magic the HR Deluxe brings to the table, plus its small and light weight.
As far as effects go, it does have reverb (which I personally do not use). I do not loop anything in my amps as they both are the last item in the chain. |
