I heard a really great Honky Tonk, walking bass tune with really nice pedal steel this morning. It was by someone named "Jake Hooper". I heard this on XM radio, Willies Place. I googled him but don't find anything. Anyone familiar with him?

Jake Hooker is one of the best country vocalists and acoustic bass players out there. He started out playing bass and singing in diferent bands in the Austin-San Antonio area. Worked some with Johnny Bush. Has his own group now and is really into honky tonk music. Last time I saw him he had Rick Price on steel. Great performance. Jody.

Jake has a huge following. Whenever he's at Pearls, you can't get in the place.Last time I stopped by,they were past the legal limit and would only let you in if someone left and the line was 50 feet long.

+1 on Jake Hooker - great stuff. If you like good old Texas style honky tonk, he is among a fine stable of young artists who are promoting that genre: Justin Trevino, Bobby Flores, Heather Myles, etc etc. Help me out here folks, I missed a bunch of them.

I'm pretty sure it was actually, "JAKE HOOKER".
Sure sounds like a good discription of his music, and they play him a lot on "Willies Place".

Jake is an outstanding up-right Bass player in his band, "Jake Hooker and the Outsiders.", as well as a widely known session bass player in the Texas area.

Justin Trevino uses him exclusevly in all the Heart Of Texas sessions he produces. Jake travels quite a bit in the Southwest, with a great Fretless band. By that I mean, Fiddle, Steel, Up-right bass, and drums. There's not a fret on stage, and every one of them play in tune!! You may have seen a typo on the spelling of his name, but I'll bet it was Jake HooKer, and not HooPer. Hope this helps shed some light...........OOPS!, Guess my post was unnessessary. I didn't see any other posts when I first pulled up the thread. Sorry.

Jake Hooker stopped by the Station Inn in Nashville the Monday before last. Did a couple of tunes and, yes, he played bass while he sang. Brought the house down.
