| Trying to locate a stand for a resonator guitar. This is the type that were made for lap steels and Dobros years ago that are height adjustable so the guitar can be played either standing or sitting. Once available from Tom Morrell lap steels,they are currently out of stock at every place I have checked and from some site indications may no longer be manufactured. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Dave,
I just purchased one of those a few weeks ago. Many here told me is was a piece of crap. There wasn't much out there to select from, so I bought one anyway. BTW: It's a piece of crap.

| Jeff...Thanks for the heads up, this is the unit I was trying to locate and it appears it is just as well I couldn't...Looks like the search goes on!...(BTW The older units I mentioned in my post are similar to snare drum stands in construction and normally bring fairly high prices on e-bay.) |

David, is this the one you're looking for? If so, I'll get the name and manufacturer for you and maybe you can search for it that way. Mine is very heavy duty, just like a good cymbal stand....JH in Va.

David, the brand of my stand is a "Gracie". I went to the search engine and typed in "Gracie guitar stands" and I found a website for them, it has pictures and pricing. I think they're around $214 each.........JH in Va.

Dave - Just use a serving cart from a restaurant supply store-you can add a neck support easily. Frank from my bluegrass band the Cunning-Hams has been doing it for 20 years. you might see a shot of it in some of my myspace pics. Regards, Dave

Does any model go completely horizontal?
Their website only shows approx a 45 degree angle.

Jeff, their website says to contact them about other stands needed. They only have the acoustic guitar and electric guitar stands pictured. Mine, as you can see in the picture I posted, goes completely horizontal or 90 degrees. It can be lowered to play sitting down or standing up. I'm 6'4" tall and it comes up plenty high for me. I have one of the Gracie stands for acoustic guitar also which I'm very happy with......JH in Va.

Just as a suggestion, have you investigated stands for small electronic keyboards? There are many variations of same.
Also, as an FYI, the back of a reso guitar is very important to the sound coming out of the cone, I've found. A dobro sitting on a lap sounds very different (to my ears) than one hanging on a strap with the back being able to vibrate with the rest of the guitar. But there are trade-offs to everything, right? Good luck in your search.

David, here's a couple of shots from the "2009 Hardee's World Tour" which shows how the stand is great when doubling on lead guitar. You can just leave the guitar on and go ahead and play your Dobro.....JH in Va.......
