Hey, if your changer looked like this...what would you clean the sticky, foul film off it with? It looks like old vegetable oil, probably isn't, but is crappy and sticky.

I use lacquer thinner but care needs to be taken with any plastic parts as they tend to disappear. |

Can I put it back together with an oil called Break Free CLP. It is an oil for guns and whatnot. It penetrates and leaves a dry lube. _________________ RICK ABBOTT

To add to what Jim said, after the thinner I would use a soapy water solution, followed with clean water, and use compressed air to dry. Some have recommended Hoppe's gun oil.Do a search on changer lube, there are many opinions. What make PSG is it?

Bill, it's my 66 crossover. I'm giving a try on cleaning it with this stuff my wife bought from a kid selling door to door. Some organic crap. It is absolutly amazing! It's taking the gunk off in seconds. Clean water wash, compressed air dry. _________________ RICK ABBOTT

Whenever I really want to get something de-gunked, I use a parts cleaner that I buy in bulk from my local NAPA auto parts store. |

Yep.........I have a gallon can of Gunk Carb and Parts Cleaner. It comes with a convenient dunk tray that has a handle (no skin contact).
You just put the parts on the tray, lower them into the solution and pull'em out 20 minutes later .... then rinse them w/ water, and blow them dry with a compressor or hair dryer.
You can then can re-seal the can Gunk can to use in the future. |
