1970’s Emmons push/pull S-10 Student Model w/case & Emmons volume pedal.
3 pedals & 1 knee lever (lowers E’s to D#). Excellent working condition, very good cosmetic condition with a few small dings. There are two minor issues: one of the rear legs is a little bent. I put a thicker rubber foot on the leg, and that helps to keep the guitar from wobbling. An easy fix would be to buy two pro legs (adjustable) for the rear of the guitar. And there are a couple of spots on the fretboard where the paint is worn off. The overall condition of the guitar is 8 out of 10. It's boxed and read to ship. Includes Emmons volume pedal.

My first steel was an Emmons student model like this one, except it was an ugly green. Wish I still had it. If I had the money, I'd jump all over this.
Nice playing, Doug. _________________ Randal Smith alias Smitty the Kid

Me too! Exactly like this one, way back in 1971. I think a lot of players of our generation started on one of these. I added two knee levers to my first one and played it for a couple years in my first country band! With the "pro changer" this student model was way ahead of the Maverick, MSA Red Baron, ZB student model, Market Rite, and other student models of the 1970s. The single coil Emmons pickup is also a nice feature of this student model.

This is a great deal for someone...these things are tone monsters (as evidenced by Doug's clip)...I'm amazed it's still available. |

So what is the difference between the student and pro models? Different pickup, tuners, body material, legs? Changer looks the same. |

Man, I wish I'd had one of those when I started out! Come to think of it, I wish I could go ahead and buy it as a third steel. Unfortunately I am at my limit. But I have a friend who might be interested if your sale doesn't go through. |

Hey Guy's,
Forget about the great deal on the guitar,
How about the fantastic job that Doug did on this tune !!!
It just goes to show that you don't need to have a $3000 guitar to sound GREAT !!!
Hey Doug, any chance of getting this song Tabbed out just like it's being played ? This would be a great shuffel to learn a little at a time.
Of course I would be willing to pay and I'm sure other steelers would be intrested as well .
Thanks !

Don't tell my wife you don't need a $3000 guitar to sound like that. She was just starting to believe me. |

Thanks guys, I appreciate it! I have no plans for tab right now... but do I agree with the idea that a steel player does not need a lot of pedals and levers to get a good sound. There's So Much there with 10 strings, 3 pedals and 1 (or 2 or 3) knee levers. The demo in this post is just 3 & 1. Playing lap steel and listening to old Jerry Byrd records over the years made me realize that a lot of great sounds are available on steel even with No pedals. So nowadays I play a S-10 with 3 & 4, and that does everything I need it to do. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

Doug - that did sound wonderful. Could I trouble you to list the signal chain? Was it straight in to the board or a mic'd amp?
Thanks for your time. Appreciate the nice clip.

Doug-I am not surprised at the quick sale on this model. The big secret. I had a student Model D10 with 6 pedals and one knee lever. Sounded great, played it with Tex Williams and on Ch5 in Phoenix, I really loved it. I had 3 pedals on E9 and 3 pedals on C6. That is all you really need. But could have used a couple of more Knee levers, just had the Eb, but worked well on lots of jobs. But I was moving back to Michigan and didnt want to ship it and had a chance to sell it, so that is the end of story...al. _________________ Michigan (MSGC)Christmas Dinner and Jam on my 80th Birthday.

Thanks Al and Paul,
As far as the signal chain, it's direct to computer, no amp. And no volume pedal. Sometimes I record directly off the guitar, no volume pedal, to get a stronger signal. That doesn't work well for slow songs though, where the volume swells are an important part of the sound.
Emmons ---> Holy Grail II Reverb ---> Boss Delay (DD-6) ---> computer
After the song was recorded I realized that I had accidentally set the reverb very low, so there is almost no verb on the steel. What you're hearing is the guitar with a little delay, direct into the computer (BIAB backing, Audacity recording software). Thanks again, much appreciated. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

Doug-Nice job on that song "Invitation to the Blues. Your fine musicianship is showing in your playing.
I have an older Goodrich Photo Cell volume Pedal, which doesn't take any power from the amp, like the old pot pedal. I like it....al. _________________ Michigan (MSGC)Christmas Dinner and Jam on my 80th Birthday.
