I'll start by saying I am a novice at both the steel guitar and I am not mechanically inclined. I apologize if I don't use the correct terminology for some of the parts etc. I do believe that anyone with patience and taking their time can just about do anything.

I have a 1982 Zum U-12 E9/B6. I am attempting to change the setup of the knees and am running in to issues. My guitar is a 1982 and has the older bell cranks with center pull. I am going slow and only removing one thing at a time. I am trying to only remove the specific pulls for the knees without touching anything I don't have to.

I am trying to remove one of the bell cranks and after removing the set screw I can't get the bell crank off the cross rod. It's loose and slides on the cross bar but it seems stuck. I have the newer bell cranks purchased from Bruce Zumsteg that are the newer ones and if I can get the older ones off I think I can probably get this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take a screw driver and go between the bottom of the bell crank and the cross shaft and just pry it gently. Those types of bells tend to get pinched on the bottom because of the set screw. I have an 83 with the same ones. They will come off.

Thanks for the tip. I think it was hotter in the room I was working in yesterday. Today it was maybe 10deg cooler. Maybe the difference in the 2 metals I don't know but today all the bell cranks came off with just a little effort.
